New to this forum but hoping for some info and help. I have a garter snake that comes back to the exact same spot next to my garage door every single day, he heads off home somewhere at night but at some time the next morning returns. Been doing this for at least the last 10 days. Gotten to the point where I've named the snake Frank. This seems like unusual behavior for a snake. Hoping to understand why Frank does this, is this normal or should I be concerned Frank is a she and about to have babies or something else entirely?

Should I be concerned Frank is so close to my house and garage entrance and without fail returns to the same spot?

Frank has found something favorable about this spot, either some food, a primo basking spot, a nice hiding spot close by or any combination of the above.

Glad you enjoy Frank, so many people mindlessly do away with snakes that show up near home.

I agree with Wayne.

I find this thread most humorous.

Frank sounds cool. He obviously hasn't found a reason to fear the area or you. None that outweigh whatever brings him back. Nothing to be concerned about.

Any idea what kind of garter Frank is?

I say Frank has adopted you and your house. Now he is looking for the restaurant to open...

Garter snakes are active in the daytime except during extremely hot weather and even then they aren't active in darkness as a general rule. My guess is that if this really is a garter he has found a favorable hiding place very close by and the spot where you find him is just a good spot to warm up in the morning. It's not unusual for a garter to find a favorite shelter, warm up very close to it before going out to hunt, and return.
