Someone on another forum came across this garter and wanted to know what kind of snake it was. Can you guys tell us the species?

T. elegans vagrans, but knowing the location would be nice.

Wanted to see what people thought before knowing the area. This one was seen in Alberta Canada.

Yeah, that narrows it down a bit. As I recall, they only have T. elegans vagrans and T. sirtalis parietalis there.

Edit: And T. radix, apparently.

ok how do you guys id snakes, from the picture i think it looks like thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis except the line on its back is a little wider and the color is more brown, but i thought colors varied like that, looks very similar. i know its from canada, and location can make a big difference on trying to id
