Hi guys and gals,
I´m looking for a sympatric lizard specy for an Garter Snake outdoor enclosure in Germany.
It should have the following skills:
nice pattern
medium size
living in groups
hibernating, but not too long
no glas walker
no snake eater

Any suggestion?

What sort of outdoor enclosure? What are the temps going to be? At first I thought of the sort of outdoor pens people keep turtles in around here, but then realized you probably have some sort of climate control since you're in Germany.
I can't think of any lizard species that meet those specifications. Anything that cohabits with garters in the wild where I am is very small. Much larger and I'd worry about one potentially biting a garter. I've never heard of anyone housing garters with anything other than dekay brown snakes.

Skinks share range here in Michigan, but im not sure how closely they share habitat or if they are a prey species where they coexist. Im still trying to find a local population, but they are evasive.
Mobile Michigan.Gov - Department of Natural Resources - Amphibians & Reptiles (http://www.michigan.gov/mobi/dnr/0,,7-153-10370_12145_12201-32981--,00.html)

Common anoles seem to be everywhere in the warm south, but I don't think they hibernate or tolerate extended freezing spells.

Thinking about it, garters would probably eat both species if they manage to catch them.

Might be best to go with natives Udo?

Zootica vivipara?
Lacerta agilis?

I believe CB is allowed in Germany and they can certainly handle the climate!

The sight of a snake distresses most lizards. Probably best to keep them separate.

At a guess Udo is referring to his outdoor enclosure from this thread -

If you want to see photos of it during build and after completion skip forward to page 16 onwards in the thread.

all I can think of is collard lizards or spiny lizards.
