Will a garter snake live in a 10 gallon enclosure?? I'm planning on getting a female albino checkered garter. I know females tend to get larger. I just need to know if I will need to upgrade the size. thanks for those who can answer this:)

I would say if it's under a year old a 10 gal. will work for awhile. A 20 long/breeder tank is much better and will work for a few years.
Just my opinion.

Get the biggest viv you can afford and have room for. They will make good use of all available space

Cool thanks! All I have right now is an unused 10 gallon tank. I will use that for now and when s/he gets bigger, I will go out and get a bigger one from christmas money:)

Like Steve said, if she is still under a year then a 10 will work great for a little while. A good rule to go by is, if the snake is longer than the tank, then it is time to get a bigger tank. You can maximize space in small tanks by getting multilevel toys for them climb and explore.

Checkout craigslist.com for awesome local deals on used aquariums. A little elbow grease and they are good as new.
Here's a couple in your area. Search "reptile" or "aquarium"
