Just a question as too which you would choose. My local reptile shop has all these species available , which would you go for ??

Personally, I'd be tempted by the Mexican Black Belly (T. e. canescans, right?). But would probably go with the radix, that's because I already have a couple radix and they have great personalities.
I'd avoid the blackneck because I find my two so frustrating to feed, and they seem to only feed for a short period each year.
At a guess, you're looking at the Coast to Coast stocklist?

Even though they are a pain in the behind, I'd go for the black neck, simply because I'm in desperate need of a new male!!!
Black bellied are very tolerant when it comes to higher temps or a large waterbowl, but more timid / shy
Radix, cool and easy going, but probably smaller then the black bellied

I've given this a great deal of thought and have decided that T.radix would be my suggestion.
They are sweet, docile, good eaters, calm, relaxed, wonderful, inquisitive, interactive, sublime, smart, gorgeous, good breeders, flexible, not stressed easily, exquisite, friendly, trusting, healthy, terrific, phenomenal, charming, glorious, pleasant, amiable, marvelous, nifty, obliging, first-class, gentle, lovely, ideal,
just to mention a couple of their good traits.:D

I'm gonna go with Steve... Every time I've run across a wild Radix... they loved to hangout and they are just very curious... I have not seen an angry radix... then again I don't try and make them mad either lol... The one I was caring for was very affectionate but then again she most likely had bran/nerve damage from being out in temps below 30 degrees, She was found just as winter hit. She was very affectionate though, making me wish I still had her.

You have made a wise decision. T.radix is awesome. I don't think I mentioned that in my earlier post.
In case you didn't know I'm a bit partial to T.radix.:D

I would not recommend Blackneck's for a beginner. As mentioned above their feeding habits can be nerve wracking. But they do have a unique look in the world of Thamnophis.
