so i did take some snakes into the park
the light is much better
the snakes aren't any slower though
we started with Thing, my mellowest garter:

she kept wanting to stick her head in some hole

Whizzy was a challenge, but I got one

Excellent photos, Rhea! All these outdoor shots sure illustrate how important proper lighting is, when you're taking pictures.

Wouldn't take either of my garters outside. I think I could manage the corn, but the garters are just too quick and easy to spook.

that's what I had thought
and I did take two of my king snakes out as well
one of them was very fast
on top of that she bit me and hard

the garters were not as fast as I had thought
Whizzy really tried, too
it just made it difficult to photograph her
I ended up with tons of shots of a blurry midsection

Simon, being so little and dark kept going under little grass mats and that scared me

and thanks all for the compliments

Very good pics and nice looking snakes. Every now and then I take my PI king out to the yard for some exercise...she just always seems to be looking for a hole to go down into...make me really nervous...LOL. Don't think I'd be able to handle it with my little Redsided.

I had my albino kingsnake out there and the pics came out awful - very washed out
I think next time I need to take him into the shade
garters are not as shiny as kings though, so it may be easier
and Simon is a sweet and elegant snake - actually a bit dull looking right now

oh and Don
Mikhaila's friend Juliet was my very enthusiastic assistant

I've taken my girl outside for some excercise a time or 2, she is such a pain to catch and since I haven't handled her really in a year shes a bit jumpy... (No reason to handle and don't wanna risk her getting loose..) Excellant photos, definetly see why you want the better more natural lighting you can find in a park !
