i was at PetCo recently, and i asked if they had garter snakes but they said they arent aloud to carry them because of OH state law. i did see a corn snake though and once i save up lots of money i am probably gonna get one of those. i was just wondering if anyone had any tips on careing for corn snakes.

Thnx,
Mike

Corn snakes do well on a rodent only diet. From my experience, they require more heat than Garter Snakes to keep them eating.

we got started on corns I have a breeding pair and 5 juviniles. they are calmer than garters, like their mice and breed well. we keep them between 75-85 degrees (lower at night) and have a sunlamp on them during the day. I like the corn because they are cuddly snakes. They don't get big enough to eat my daughters 3lb poodle and the couple of time they have gotten out they have met me at the door or in the shower.

I recommend getting The Corn Snake Manual, or the new book from the same author, Corn Snakes: The Comprehensive Owner's Guide. Has pretty much all the answers you need. :)

Personally, I've found much of it useful even when keeping garters. :D

That is correct. They're pretty well respected breeders.
