Yesterday, I received a shipment of 500 night crawlers. I prepared new bedding( I change bedding with all new worms). I placed 250 of the worms into 2 separate cooler and put them in the fridge.
This morning I went to the snake room to start Saturday feeding. I opened the fridge door and had a pile of worms drop on the floor.
I was very surprised these worms could lift the fitted lid. I figured the raised lip would prevent such a thing from happening. I was wrong.
The lids are now secured with a 5 pound weight.

If the worms are leaving the container, there is a problem that they are fleeing from. Check ph, temperature and air quality.
The worm facility I toured was palette after palette of open containers in cold rooms with lots and lots of ventilation and air monitoring. If conditions are comfortable, the worms stay put.

(I feel terrible for not having this visit written up in full already, but tell hnical and belting issues have interfered. I still have notes, drafts and pictures and frustration with myself.)

I think it was that initial settling in phase for the worms as they were transferred out of the shipping cooler into the holding coolers. As a rule I don't have this problem.

At least you know they are healthy lil buggers. Should be good eats for your snakes. :)
