I defrosted some silversides today, and when I went to check to see if they were thawed I noticed some kind of green string stuff wrapped up with them. The silversides have been frozen until just now, so I don't think it could be any kind of mold. Is this possibly some kind of seaweed? Worms? Could this be harmful?

Looks to me like seaweed.

Looks like weed to me. Can you see any in the silversides that are still frozen? Assuming that this wasn't the last fish in the pack.

I have seen that a few times before but I think it's just plant matter... at least I hope so because I just picked it out and fed the fish to my garters anyway.

I don't see any more in the package. I was hoping it was seaweed, just haven't found anything like that in the fish before.

I went ahead and threw them out after the picture, just in case.

I get this quite often. I'm pretty sure it's marine algae. It's a natural substance that came from the sea and I wouldn't let it bother me. Just pretend it's not there!

I've got this once or twice, and removed but otherwise ignored it without issue...

No need to throw them out! Like everyone said, it's just plant matter/algae. Won't hurt anything even if the snakes ate some.

Found a piece last night and picked it out. Definitely looks like plant matter.

I didn't throw out the whole pack, just the couple that I found the green stuff with.
Thanks for all the input everyone!
