Welcome to the best garter snake forum on the planet! I don't do anacondas, but I used to do venomous - I used to have a copperhead. I don't have space for an anaconda. I got 1 baby burm who is beautiful but real aggressive. What types of venomous do you do?

Nice to have you with us. Garters are an awesome snake. Here's a link to the care sheet which is always a good read.
What part of the Midwest are you in? I'm in Council Bluffs Iowa.

Welcome! GLad to have another person converted to Garters! lol

Just please don't try to get 'color morphs' from breeding different species together! Checkereds to Checkereds and Red-sided to red-sided. No Mutts!

Just had to clarify that... they are not like breeding Corns n Kings together to get 'super corns' you'd end up with a couple ugly mutt snakes that have no positives.

This is true. Nothing good ever comes from crossing thamnophis species. It's just muddies them up and the offspring usually end up looking ugly. It's not like crossing kings/milks/corns.

If you end up with a sibling pair of albino checkereds, keep in mind they are usually already heavily inbred so I wouldn't recommend breeding checkered siblings.

Just Crotalus ruber for me, but they were tame as heck. Couldn't piss those snakes off if I tried. They never tried to bite. Speaking of pissing them off, we had a tiny hole in the floor where we lived in San Diego. The cable TV came through that. In the winter we used to put our ear to the hole, then stomp on the floor and listen to them rattle. There were a bunch of them spending the winter under the house.:D

One day, the (military) housing authority came through and gassed them all out and slaughtered them. It sucked. Didn't take 2 months, and we were infested with mice.
