Yesterday (12/1/12), I happened to stumble upon an Eastern Blackneck Garter for sale. I immediately fell in love with him. After a conversation with the dealer, I eventually took him home for $125. He looks like any other Eastern Blackneck with only one exception. He has a VIVID orange stripe running down his back. I just wanted to share him with all of you.

I cannot decide upon a name for him. If you have any ideas for names, post them below.

Thanks!

Just a heads up, these guys require heavy scenting on their pinks.

Ok, I'm not even sure if that guy is big enough for pinkies yet. I'm going to try earthworms.

Congrats, one of my favourite garter species.......

Ditto on the pinkies, Blacknecks have big wide heads, You can start feeding XS mouse pinks scented with fish as soon as you want to.

Do I have to cut them in half? Or can I just feed him whole XS pinkies?

It all depends on pinky to snake head size ratio.
If the pinky is no wider then the snakes head I would say feed whole.

Blackie...or Stripes maybe. He's very pretty! I don't have any baby easterns right now, but I have a couple of easterns that I need to find homes for...PM me if you want to discuss. Congrats on your new little one!

I've got 2 of these on Thursday, cbb 2012, that eagerly took unscented chopped up pinks the day after they arrived. From what I've observed in my collection, even some of the bigger guys that could easily take a whole fuzzy, seem more likely to snatch up chopped pinks, which leaves me feeling less stressed, and is easy enough when I'm chopping up for a bunch of snakes.

Unfortunately, the little guy has moved on to heaven now. He refused to eat anything I offered him so this did not come as too much of a surprise to me. He will be missed. :(

Hey did you try giving him live guppies? I have a pair of 2012s and they refused to eat anything that isn't alive and a fish. I have to trick them into eating pinkies by first feeding them a live fish with tweezers and that gets them into a feeding frenzy then I give them a pinky.. sometimes 1 will bite the pinky, hold it in it's mouth then spit it back out.

Yup, he didn't even seem to want those, I have never had a baby garter not even seem interested in those..except for him.
