Hi All

We all keep record of our snakes somehow, whether it be expensive software or a simple excel sheet.

I use to have an excel sheet to keep track of my snakes feeding, Shedding and growth rates. I wanted something different, out there on the WWW there are a couple of options but all expensive and some very difficult to work and understand.

I wanted something that’s user friendly for the beginner but I also want to include all the features that advanced keepers / breeders would use.

Well I decided to develop my own Reptile tracking / Logging software, and I am now at the Point where I need someone to help me Beta test my software.

I have already compiled my software and I have built the installer as well. So there are no difficult setup screens etc. All very easy.

I need 4 x Users to help me with the testing, I would prefer 2 x beginner users and 2 x more experienced users.

What I need from you is to test the software and give me feedback and suggestions on what you like and dislike in the software and I would also like to know what features you would like to see added in the software.

So if you would like to Beta Test my software please send me a PM with your Info. All 4 the Beta testers that help me will receive a free copy of the full software when it’s completed.

Moderators I hope this post is in order.

Thanks
@ndy

Here are a few I found on the web. I can't comment or recommend any of these as I know nothing about them.

Metzcal Herp Software (http://www.metzcal.com/)

Huh, I didn't know those existed. Probably more useful for people with more snakes than I have. I just use a giant calendar and a sharpie to keep track of my feeding schedule :p

Nothing wrong with that.

I know of Metzcal I tried it, its old and theres no support on it and you need to be an Intermediate PC user to be able to use it

An snake lab is also one of our local software guys, mine is more user friendly :)

You could also use iHerp : Online Reptile Software, Husbandry, Community, Tracking, Breeding, Snakes, and More! (http://www.iherp.com) to keep track and document your reptiles progress.

Guys and Gals

I am not looking for software! I have already developed my own software and would like to input of other users on my software, I have already done my homework and i know of 99% of the software out there and tried most of them but was never happy. Some are full of adverts, some lack the features, some is just buggy and some have no support.

I am not asking anyone to buy my software, i would just like the input from 2 novice keepers & 2 Experienced keepers for now and then from there i will broaden the availability and improve the software as the feedback comes in. On our local forum i already have 4 Beta testers that already gave valuable feedback and i have already started including the suggestions that i received.

Petco uses software for their herps/inverts too. It's all kept track of on the computer that opens the cages. Employees have to log into the computer to even open the cages. Feeding schedules, arrivals/sales, etc. is all on that computer. It's certainly not a new idea. They've had this system for more than a decade that I know of. It's a specialized computer. The entire setup is computerized and has a touch screen display above the tanks. Not sure who makes the setup, but it's pretty cool. Employees log in, tell the computer which animal they're feeding/tank cleaning, which tank to unlock so they can slide it out, etc. and it all gets recorded. The computer also tells them when it's time to do maintenance and feeding.

I think I'll run over there and find out. Maybe there's a link to it (the computerize herp setup) on the web.

There are other software out there I know of a lot of them and tried allot of them and haven't been satisfied, With my software I am targeting the new keeper, the experienced keeper, the breeder, the Pet store and even the Zoo for record keeping of there reptiles, breeding, feeding, Growth, Medical and Shedding Records, you can even keep your Care sheets in the software, everything is indexed, printable, e-mailable and can me exported to multiple formats with a simple click of a button. its user friendly, easy to install, easy to backup, easy to update. Even my mom can install and use it and she is computer illiterate

Well here are some the screen shots of my Final Beta before the official release.
