my blue striped is dead
I cannot believe it
yes, she was one of the three snakes I took to the vet last time, but she was the one I was least concerned about
her blisters were almost gone
she didn't eat on Tuesday and I handled her for a while - she seemed fine
I checked on her Wednesday, gave her fresh water, but didn't take her out
yesterday I was busy and didn't even check on her, but normally I wouldn't think of that as an issue
today I was going to offer her a fresh pinkie and found her not only dead, but already smelling bad
how could this have happened?
I just totally don't get what happened

so sorry, how old was she...?
Snakes have a habit of hiding illness so that they do not appear to be an easy target for prey..

So sorry to hear your bad news, Rhea. As CrazyHedghog says, they hide it well.

Sorry about losing your blue-striped. You took her to the vet and did the best you could.
Rhea, I'm sorry to hear about that and hope the other two are doing fine.

Sorry to hear Rhea:(. I think there is a bad moon rising or something. Took Chloe for a walk today and I stepped on a stick and it flew right into her eye:eek:. $80 vet trip and she is OK but what are the odds??? I guess sometime things just go wrong with no explanation and you can't anything about it:confused:.

I'm a bit over the shock now
but yesterday I was in bad shape
I ended out taking out every snake I've got
what started as this bleary-eyed "sniff, sniff, I got to make sure you guys are alright" sort of thing turned out to be a good way to calm myself down
I am no longer feeling guilty, because really - there wasn't any indication
just feeling sad about the loss is manageable
all the other snakes are fine
Drache had his first meal since last October on Wednesday and then another yesterday, and his lump has been shrinking
I do think he may be blind
Coffee, my runty Xenochrophis is having appetite issues again and if he doesn't take anything today, I will consider that a problem
will find out about Sammy Monday or Tuesday and I know I shouldn't do this but I have to assume she'll be fine
I want to be able to laugh about this and tell people my snake had cosmetic surgery to get her double chin removed
any other result is not acceptable

Sorry to hear about the bluestripe. What was she taken to the vet for?
it was some skin blisters and they had pretty much cleared up
I was not even planning on taking her in again and I always take every animal I have the least question about

Did they give her anything?Skin blisters clear up themselves .all you need is a dry tank.I don't trust vets as far as I can throw them. They do good with mammals but with reptiles most don't know squat.

my vet is fantastic with snakes
we both agreed that medication was not needed
there was nothing greatly alarming about it
now I wonder whether it was a sign of a suppressed immune system because of something else going on that just wasn't apparent
there was just no indication of anything being wrong
