Take care all. Hoping the storm isn't the disaster the news outlets are indicating it will be.

I'm in New Jersey and I'm delaying my brumation. I brumate my snakes in a wine cooler and I don't want to start brumation and then have the power go out. So I was going to start brumating on Nov. 1st but now might start on Nov. 2nd or 3rd. The storm's supposed to make landfall right over NJ tomorrow during the evening.

Watching and waiting. Connecticut already has 9 thousand without power. We are ok so far. No school today and tomorrow.
Snakes and frogs and fish all fed and fresh water. Kids are on their own :)
Airports closing, Amtrak cancelled service on eastern seaboard. They are calling it "Frankenstorm"

Marnie wanted me to post an update for her. As of a few hours ago, she has shut down the computer and has a full charge on her phone. They have a heater in case of a power outage. Hopefully all will be fine.

So far I haven't gotten anything in Charlotte, which is surprising according to the television.

Hope everyone else in the far more affected areas is all good.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to you.

Some rain and wind, and it's like 30 degrees here (was 76 yesterday) but other than that, no problems. We definately didn't get much of it.

And sure enough, Greg's power did go out. Still out. Post offices and businesses are boarded up and without power.

My mistake. I didn't see Steve's post before I posted. I must have misunderstood Greg and it's just surrounding businesses/areas that are without power. He just sent me a text. His house and a pizzaria have power and that's about it. I'll try to see what's up with Julio.

EDIT: can't get through to Julio. "all circuits are busy" message.

FAKES: http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-57542207-93/sandy-is-a-disaster-but-these-photos-are-ridiculous/

I thought that photo looked familiar, like it's been around a while. I have seen a bunch of crap out there, pics and stuff from past storms being passed off as Sandy, but these are real, near as I can tell:

Tried Julio again. Even though it's mobile to mobile I get a fast busy signal. I imagine the cell towers serving the area probably aren't powered, if not damaged.

Yeah I still have power. Water isn't really a problem where I live (top of the hill) but there is a huge hill in Hackensack that leads down to the city and then ends with the river. I'm going to check it out tomorrow. My house still has power but I think that no one else around me has power. I went down to the end of my street today, and power lines were across the road, a light was just dangling by a thin piece of wood and 2 big trees fell and one of them came within 2 inches of hitting a brand new BMW. Fortunately all the trees fell into the road and didn't hit houses. My house probably draws 5x as much power as anyone else's house on my block but I still never lose power. I'll post up pictures ASAP I'll start a new thread. Although all this morning, I had a TERRIBLE phone signal. I could only talk to people with iPhones through iMessage because my WiFi was still up.

We are still without power. No school all week. And I've been sick since last thursday.. they postponed trick or treating until Sunday. My phone is charged (for now) but will die by this afternoon.:(
Most damage around here is related to trees being down.
Thanks Steve for checking in and keeping forum family updated.

Well, my area is a disaster zone, and we won't have power until the 9th! Everything is still shut down but were hanging in there. Luckily we somehow managed to get ahold of a generator thanks to a friend letting us buy the one they custom ordered at sears. So we are keeping our food and the snake food cold and we have a few lights going. My snakeroom sits dark and cold, it held heat super well for 3 days but now I need to get some heat down there for a few animals that don't do too well in 50 degrees. Most of the snakes I keep have no problem handing that and theyre curled up asleep but I don't really want to risk the life of the spilotes or a few others. I'm glad it's not freezing outside. Going out and trying to find fuel, ice, water, batteries, anything battery powered, or extension cords is impossible. We know of One gas station to get fuel and we stocked up on water so we have plenty. There are people who have lost everything to this storm..... So I really feel for them. This area is just not set up to take a storm like that. The trees are not built to handle that kind of wind! There are trees blocking the roads everywhere.

Im glad you are safe and i hope all of your critters can survive this. I used to breed boas and one year our power went out for 5 days due to an ice storm and i came home from work and found all of my boas upside down and i thought they were all dead until i saw one of my babies move a little so i rushed them in the living room where we lit a kerosene heater and they all slowly started flipping back over as they warmed up and i didn't lose a single snake. I felt so blessed because i had hypos, hogg island boas, dumerils, and some very nice red tail boas that were possible het albino.i would have never thought that 8 or 9 hours without heat could have killed my snakes but if i wouldn't have got home when i did they would have been gone.

Glad you and your snakes are all good, Shannon.

I remember last year the tornado hit our place, trashed the yard, knocked down 70+ trees, uprooted the neighbors houses, sent someones car into our front yard.. was lucky to be alive, with almost no damage to our house/cars.. All the power was out for over a week. The problem that time was it was TOO hot, the problem was keeping the snakes COOL. Hit like 95 degrees inside at times. So I know what it's like. Glad it wasn't worse, good luck with the days without power, it's a bitch.

Yeah, I already posted that ^^^ a while back, but it was a different thread. This subject was also in the "so quiet" thread.

Thing is, a lot places didn't get power restored, or much of any recovery, before this winter storm happened w/high winds again. Only now, people still without power are freezin' their butts off.

Actually, things are warming up a bit according to your forecast. I think you saw sleet instead of snow because it's warming up.
