These are my amazingly, stunningly beautiful new radix friends. :D I am in love already. Thanks so very much, Steve! They are so much more than I ever imagined. I feel so blessed to have them. Sierra is a little more relaxed and she already ate a worm. Whoohoo!! I'm so happy to have them and had to share.

That extra lower row of black blotches.
It looks like Sabrina has that too, am I looking at the wrong row? They are amazing and sweet and curious and a lot more active than my other babies, and they love to be in the water, which the others are not in as much either, and... and...(I could go on and on... but I won't, for now. ;)) and I'm so grateful to have them. :)

That's why I asked: A. to be sure, and B. because I saw it on Sabrina's pics, and not Sierra's:p Either way they're both beautiful:D

Thanks y'all! :D I'm glad to have them for sure. Sierra loves to hide! She gave me a heart attack. I thought she got out somehow a few days ago. I searched around the tank taking everything out and didn't see her anywhere, then the room and house for over an hour and my husband got home to help me look, he looked in the tank and saw this head pop up out of the aspen, he went to ask where her sister was and then saw the other one at the other end of the tank... Whew... We couldn't find her another day but I didn't panic so much this time, I knew she had to be in there somewhere. Come to find out there is a place in the log that they can hide that you cannot see from any angle unless you take a flashlight and look down in the hole, now I know where to look when she disappears. The lil rascal... Other than that they are settling in nicely. :)

I added to their cage today, put in the coconut and the branches. I wanted them to have more to do, I want to put some vines on the branches, eventually, but they cost money and the branches didn't. I hope they like it. :)

Thanks, yeah they do that a lot, either from the front of the bush or out the back. They are curious but still leery. They are coming around though, Sierra faster than Sabrina (Now being called Sarah, Sabrina just wasn't sticking. ;) )

My beautiful Sierra shed yesterday, she seems to have even more orange in her now than before, I'm loving it! :D Her shed did not come off as clean as Sammi's but we got it all. Steve, did her shed come off in several pieces before? Just wondering if that is normal for her, thanks. Two down, and one to go, we'll see if Sarah follows suit soon. ;)

I would say it usually comes off in one piece but having a broken shed isn't anything to worry about unless you get retained eye caps or tail sheds.
Sierra is looking a lot like her mother (Speckle) She's beautiful.

11-28-2012, 12:16 PM
OK, good. When I went to check on her the tail piece you see there was still on her, I held onto the edge that was loose and she just slithered out of it, I was relieved for that. Thanks. :) I wouldn't mind if you posted a picture of Mom Speckle here to see where she could be going in the future. ;) I'm so glad to have her, she eats outta my fingers now and is very curious about the camera; makes it hard to take pictures when she is crawling over the top of it to see what I'm doing. lol

She is gorgeous!
One thing I did end up buying was:

http://i1342.photobucket.com/albums/o774/foxrun402/The%20Terrarium/temporary_zpsbb6410ec.jpg
I know some people wouldn't use it or may be leery about it, but it works rather well and can be applied once per month before a shed to ensure that they have a much easier time shedding! It was about 8$ at petco and I barely used any at all with how little Suzi was... She has no known history of a "bad shed" but still as a preventative I figured I would give it a shot... Found her first shed in 1 solid piece nothing was missing from it! I was like YES!!!!
I am not sure how well she would have shed without it... (probably just fine) but I wanted to be sure she wasn't going have difficulties!
Just an idea and some input from one garter enthusiast to another! and again.... She is beautiful! :D

I had a great interaction with Sarah yesterday. She was sitting up on her branches (first time I've seen that) and so I opened the cage, hoping to get a picture of her. She stayed where she was (normally been pretty flighty), cool! So I took a few pictures, and I reached out to pet her and she didn't bolt, sweet! So I started to pick her up and she didn't freak and get all scared, I'm amazed. When I was holding her she was calm and curious, slithering up and around my arms and neck, flicking her tongue and seeming quite content. I introduced her to the half of an egg carton and she did laps in it, poking her head out here and there. Then she finally came out on my arm, and went back into the cage. It was just really cool, and I wanted to share. I'm glad she is starting to trust me already. Hope it is the start of a lot more interactions like that. :D

I've had problems with it for months. (The "insert image" function which just wraps IMG codes around your URL) Can't even use it at all. Just upload to a file hosting sight and put the URL to the image between manually typed image codes. Picture should not exceed 600X800

Right button-click an image (make sure it's in the size you want to display) For IE select "properties" in the popup menu. You can then highlight and copy the URL and place between image codes, then post. It's that simple.
For Firefox, on right-click you choose "copy image location" and then paste between image codes.
Keep in mind if you do this on a thumbnail image, it's going to display the thumbnail. If you want to show it in full size, then view it in full size before copying the URL.

Sierra shed again already. I was not expecting her to shed again for a couple months at least. I guess she is growing happy and healthy. :)
Sammy is not eating well though. I'm getting a little worried about her. We'll see what happens.

To my great surprise I found another shed in Sarah and Sierra's tank last night. Sarah decided to shed again already. Am I over feeding them? At least it was a clean shed, no retention.
I've also discovered that Sammi loves pinkies and since I fed her them she will not eat the worms anymore and will hold off until the next time I offer her them again and skip out on the worms. Sigh... at least she is eating something.
The little rascals poop almost every time I get them out... will they eventually stop doing that or is that just part of them? My ordies didn't do that. Thanks :)

It all depends on their personality. The more comfortable they feel the less they should do that. Then there are those that do it all the time.:D My Lt. Dan (male T.radix) does it every time I pick him up.

I'm so excited I have to share with someone. :) Sammi finally shed again this week, only the second time since she came home in October, she is tiny. She has her appetite back too! She ate a whole pinkie this morning (cut in quarters, yes I finally broke down and cut them up, not easy for me, but I do it for my baby's health) for the first time since I brought her home. I've discovered that she does not want to eat the food if I cut it too small, she just ignores it. She has also started eating while we are holding her, which is really cool to me. :D
8148 Oct. 10th, 2012 8149and8150 Feb. 4th, 2013 - she is not growing very fast at all, is this normal for this species?
Sierra and Sarah each ate 3 pinkies this morning too. They are beautiful as ever and still growing cuz Sierra looks like she is getting ready to shed again soon... not in blue phase yet but she is looking more dull today so we'll see.
A couple favorite pix of Sarah and Sierra too, wouldn't wanna leave them out. ;)

All 3 of the girls shed this week, Sierra yesterday, and Sammi today. :) Sarah is getting so green and Sierra is getting more orange. Sammi is getting a green tummy and so pretty too. I love watching them change and grow. I'm so happy Sammi is eating well now... 2 sheds in a month is what I was looking for and expecting from her since I got her. Now I hope she keeps it up for a while. :D I'll try to get some pix up soon.

03-03-2013, 10:08 PM
Well, I wasn't meaning every 2 weeks, it was actually almost a month between them. My Radix Girls are shedding about every 6 weeks and they are at least a year older so that's why I was expecting her to shed more ofter since she is still not even a year old yet I'd say. She has a lot of growing and catching up to do.
