If you could take time to answer my survey question, it would be appreciated.

Question 1: What demographic is the survey targeting?
Question 2: Is there a possibility that people with a positive attitude towards snakes will have a more positive attitude towards the use of snake venom?

Done. But I assume you're asking a wider group than just us, because Stefan's point about bias is spot on.
Also, are you aware of this research? It's a recent article on the BBC website:
BBC News - Black mamba venom is 'better painkiller' than morphine (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-19812064)

I was thinking the same thing!

I answered. It would greatly depend on the side effects, how it is metabolized, and other treatment options, as I have a number of other medical issues.

Thanks everyone. To answer the questions posted by Stefan...this is just an undergrad research paper. It will not be published at this point. It would have to have serious tweaking to ever be published...that would be something I would have to consider down the road. The survey question is being given to a wider sample...but it is basically just something to put out as a feeler to get an idea of how people react to the idea. I will probably use it as a figure in my paper...and clearly state the sample limitations and the purpose of the survey question. For my primary research for the paper, I will probably being conducting an interview with someone who knows about venom and it's use in medicine...not a survey. I may put together a larger survey asking more questions about how people feel about venom used as medicine...but it would only be to add a small piece to my paper. The actual thesis of the paper is to prove through my research that there are studies being conducted that demonstrate that many venoms are showing promise as treatment for various cancers. Hope that answers your questions. And Chris, thank you...yes...someone already gave me a link to the article. It is an amazing article and I am using it in my paper since morphine is often used as a pain medication for cancer patients.
Oops...guess I didn't answer Stefan's second question. I hope that this paper will inform people of the amazing discoveries that the medical community is making in terms of venom and the possible treatment of cancers. My research has already convinced me that venom may be an untapped gold mine in cancer research. They have found that many components of several different venoms have demonstrated in the laboratory the ability to stop cancer growth, or kill cancer cells without the side effects of traditional treatments. When my paper is finished, I will be glad to post copy for the forum to read.

snake venom huh? Yeah, there are some good medical uses. Maggots have promise too. Maggots saved a diabetic friend's foot when nothing else was working.

Thanks guys...I am actually preparing a longer survey that will be used as my primary research for the paper. I talked it over with my professor and I am going to use the survey instead of an interview for my primary research. My professor wants me to post it on facebook so that I can get a sample population that represents the general public more accurately, since we are snake people. But I will post a link to my facebook page when I get the survey up...feel free to take it. I will also, as promised, post a link to my paper when it is finished. Be warned that this is not a grad level empirical study...it's a bit informal in tone...but that is how my professor wants it. When I am done the course, I will edit the paper to make it more appropriate and probably post it the web. How do I make an attachment on here? I could attach my proposal for the paper so that you guys can see my preliminary work.
Yes, maggots are good...they are also investigating spider venom. Wait until you guys read about the studies they are conducting on snake venom and the cancers that could be treated. Leukemia is one of them...that made me think of our good friend, John.
