I got a 20 long from a guy at work for $15. He used it as a sump so I know it holds water! But I am going to use it for some lucky garters soon. I bought some lights that will take up to a 60 watt bulb but I plan to use a head pad and thermistat for heat. The lights are CF bulbs. All the plants from Family dollar (all for $5) except for the middle one it is exo terra. I have 2 hides made out of 1 exo terra large that I cut in half and put on either end. I am going to put the water dish / swimming pool in the middle. Let me know what you think.
The top I made from 1/2 inch plywood still need to finish a door/access hatch and I think I might try to use liquid nails to permantly attach it to the aquarium....or might use the clips somehow that I have. I routered the edges just for fun.

Now all I need is a snake or two...lol.70227023

Not sure clips are needed. Looks good.

Looks good to me, I like the lid. I'd suggest using some mesh for the access hatch as you will want some ventilation and I can't see anywhere else that will promote airflow. The layout looks okay, if you put the water in the middle just make sure that it isn't over any of the heatmat or you may find your humidity rising.
Also, I just want to check that the bottom of the lamps is guarded with mesh or something similar?

It's going to be a couple of lucky snakes in there.

I just finished the access door... I was going to out in mesh for air flow. Under the lights is aluminu
Screen. For the heat mat I am thinking 1/3 which should not reach the water dish .. Thanks for the pointers.

Looks like a solid lid. Well done.

I got the door /access done. And as suggested it has aluminum screen. Now I just have to smooth everything out to make it safe ( no spinters). I am thinking a slide lock for the door.

Looks great but I would restrict heat to one end (water dish on cool end). The idea being to provide a temperature gradient. The entire top should be screen. Hot air rising from the warm end draws cooler, fresh air into the cool end . "chimney effect"

Looks good, can't wait to see pics of the new tenants. I'm w/Steve and Mike, the lid should be fine just the way it is.
