So, in the house we have an escapee hatchling rat snake. I need all tips and hints you have to catch the wee bandit?
My only other escapee i've ever had was a 8 foot boa. So he didn't stay gone long. I've done all the usual, checked hot spots, I have a mouse defrosting, other things I can do?!
Any help appreciated, I'm so worried!

Making a warm spot can sometimes attract them.
I've also found that sitting and listening for movement is important.

I've always heard that if you take some towels and warm them in the dryer and make a big pile of them, the snake will go to them and burrow. Look inside shoes and little places that he could get into that would serve as a hide for him. And make sure to check under cushions before sitting and inside shoes before putting them on.

I had sat and listened for 30-45mins, but hearing anything over hognoses is damn near impossible. We ripped the whole snake room up, and he is no where to be found, so the next hottest place is my room, so I'll set up a hot spot in here!

You can try putting some flour along the walls or corners and if he passes over it it will give you an idea which direction he is headed.
Are you sure he is lost and not hiding in his enclosure?

The Rhino Rat has been found! I was certain he was out because the two live together atm and the only reason I knew he was out was because I found her.
He was found in my room, but my trusty detectives, the cats, and was sitting among a wooly cardigan I had flung over my radiator. Thank god my cats aren't normal carts and don't eat everything they find! Both are now happy and secure, I can relax now!

Glad to hear you found him!
About a month ago I thought a baby garter had escaped, but it turns out he was just hiding under the newspaper layer I put under his carefresh.

They can be sneaky wee bums when they want to be! My friend had one of those poly back ground things with a corn in....Searched the whole house, ripping the bottoms out of sofas and everything...It had just hid behind the back ground, she wasn't too happy!

Glad it turned out OK. But I have to mention that it doesn't matter if the cat "eats" the animal or not. It's in their very nature to at least "play" with it, which usually ends up resulting in the death of the animal. Also, if a cat really, really loves their human family/home, they will often bring LIVE, although sometimes fatally injured animals home and present them to you.
Did I mention I am not a cat person? I don't hate cats at all. I just know their nature and I dispise it. I love animals, even in their "undesireable" nature. I just wouldn't own one. Cats, even at their best, are still cats. Know what I mean?
If you don't understand read this: http://www.angelfire.com/fl/EeirensFaerieTales/ScorpionandFox.html
The other variation I like better ends with the scorpion saying "it's in my nature"
Cats are very incompatible with my main interest in animals. And those are, Birds and Reptiles.
