Do garter snake bites hurt? Figaro is the mean one and I wear gloves if I have to put my hands in her tank or actually touch her. So she has never actually bit me. She wants to though.
I got bit once by a boy who I caught and released. It didn't hurt really, but I was shocked he would do such a thing to me!!! I just wanted to love him. :)
I think Figaro is a special case. I have never met a garter that is mean like her.

Do garter snake bites hurt?

Quick jabs don't hurt any more than scratches of similar size- it usually takes me a minute or so before I can tell if they drew blood.
If they mistake you for prey it hurts a bit- they hold on and chew and the saliva can contain secretions that cause irritation and swelling.
The only garter ive handled who tried to chew on me was too small to break much skin, but he made many tiny pinholes on thee web between thumb and forefinger. No swelling -I was lucky.

My snakes never look ferocious, they just bite. And when their mouth is open, its for food. Lol

For the record, there's a reason why don't have any pictures of a vagrans trying to look "ferocious" and that is that they have never tried.

Sure, I get one of these looks from time to time, but I'm convinced that has more to do with the snake trying to be inconspicuous, than anything else.

They only hissing and angryness i get is from one rescued ball python, who hisses a lot...and my hognose snakes if they *don't* want their food. They hiss at it *lol*

All my garters are still babies though.

And "i just wanted to love him" should be *my* tattoo for every animal i get bit by *lmao*

Oh yeah...I see Cee Cee flattening her head...and she actually is usually angry about something...like she sees the dog walk by or something...but I have never seen her look downright scary...even though she likes to bite me now. Same with Sadie...she'll bite...but she never looks mean. I even watch Possum coil and strike at the glass...but he just looks cute and funny when he does it. Half the time he is upside down or sideways! Lol...
