Do we have a thread on the various or even preferred shipping methods? Searching 'shipping' isn't very fruitful. I know of SYR (Ship Your Reptiles) of course, but is there a huge advantage to using them vs. just doing Fed Ex overnight yourself? Any other reasonable/legal options that I don't know about? Thanks...

Fedex doesn't allow shipping reptiles unless you are "Reptile Certified". I'm sure that rule isn't followed many times:D

I have used SYR many times but they are very unreliable. They are constantly in some sort of trouble with the shipping company because some a hole screws it up for everyone. In theory it is a good idea and they offer good discounts but I would recommend getting certified yourself. The only downside to getting certified yourself is that your "license" only allows you to ship to businesses. That is not something that is followed but shipping to a residential w/ or w/o a certification is the same thing.

Hope this helps!!!

Give these guys a shout, They are absolutely awesome and I highly recommend their shipping packages, They are of awesome quality. I've used them twice now, once for inside Canada shipping another time from the states, both times were really good turn outs.

Reptile Express is awesome but as far as I know, they do not do domestic American shipments. Import and export only.

So... short of getting fed-ex certified myself... what other methods are used?

Thank you all for the input thus far & Thank you Steve for the certification process. Sounds easy enough.

Some people use the Post Office over night service, if it's available between the two addresses.
Once again I don't think the Post Office allows reptiles to be shipped but it's done anyway.

Yeah USPS and UPS will not knowingly ship snakes, but ppl still do it anyway. When it comes to shipping snakes and I think reptiles in general, your options are very limited.

www.reptilesexpress.com (http://www.reptilesexpress.com) is a good one for shipping. they are certified thru FedEx for shipping reptiles. they also have all the supplies.

So far I'm really liking Reptile Express, though I've started the FedEx process as well as applied for a membership at Reptile Express. I'll wait to see what my price is after discount at FedEx, but Reptile Express seems to be less expensive at this point.

Folks at that other huge reptile forum have been impressed with Reptile Express customer service, too, which is always a plus.

Lol! You weren't wrong Neil. They're talking about Reptiles Express in the USA (they have an 's' on reptile, we don't). Yes, kind of confusing lol.

But you're correct, we (Reptile Express), only service Canadian domestic shipments, or USA/Canada Imports/Exports, but definitely not US domestic shipments.

Hope this helped clear things up ;)

This is Robyn with ShipYourReptiles. How are we "constantly in trouble" with the shipping company? There is absolutely no truth to that.

We have been with FedEx for 2 years and we haven't had a single issue with them. They are a great shipping partner to work with, and we have shipped tens of thousands of live reptile packages with them. We serve shippers with one package, and shippers with thousands of packages.

We started as a UPS service, but eventually they threw their hands up and said "no snakes", ending that relationship. But that was years ago, not even this decade.

We offer an excellent service, and pricing starts at 20% off the FedEx rate (it gets better with volume). We also allow for shipments to and from Residences (that is an exception for SYR approved directly by FedEx) and we offer On-Time and Live Arrival Insurance as well, something NO OTHER shipping company offers.

We are the industry leader in reptile shipping, we work hard to maintain that, and we are proud of the service we offer.

What is happening is the truth prevails. One simply cannot slander a business on open forums.

Anyone on here currently or recently using SYR? How was your experience with them?

Hi Bushsnake, that snake issue was UPS specific. There is no such restriction on non-venomous with FedEx, and we have been with them for quite some time now. We would love to service your shipping needs.

I used them just last friday. I went to ship them over night express and I dropped them off, got home, and looked at my reciept... It was express. not overnight. aparantly on the weekends you have to pay an extra $15-$20 to do over night. Which SYR did not post on there website:mad: So immediatly I called fedex and their records of my package were messed up and they could not reroute my snakes. So my snakes ended arriving at there new home today! 3 days after drop off! Luckily they servived but I was not happy.

I have shipped with them once before and everything went smooth. but they have something to add on their web site!

I heard from Andy about this issue today, I am positive he provided you the follow up info, sorry if you missed it.

It is widely known that you should not ship on a Friday, since a package won't arrive until Monday. But you are right, it should appear on the site, and it does. It appears a few different times in our Get Help section:

Ship Your Reptiles - Shipping Standards

Shipping service restrictions
(http://www.shipyourreptiles.com/en/get_help/get_help_shipping_standards/#question-21)All live animals must be shipped FedEx Priority Overnight, Monday through Thursday only. An overnight Friday shipment won't arrive until Monday- that is not acceptable and not permitted.

It also appears in the TOS and Shipping Standards that you must check off on each time that you book a shipment. We stress this factor a number of times, again, I am sorry that you missed it, I am glad to hear your animals arrived safely.

Thank you Reptile(no s - sorry for the confusion!) Express & Robyn @ SYR for chiming in. For what it's worth I've heard nothing but glowing reports about SYR's customer service & shipping practices.
