Hello, not sure if this in right section as I feel this doesn't belong in Urgent Care. Anyway, for a while now (~past year or 2)
little pieces of my snakes tounge has been peeling off in a curly string. This doesn't happen often, but enough to question about it.
I've only seen about 10+ pieces in his lifetime. I googled this before but nothing came up, so I wondered maybe if you guys
have ever heard of this. I have a picture or two of this (although not in good quality) if you need to see one.
Thanks for reading this.

I have heard that they also shed the skin on their tongues... but I have not witnessed it personally. Anyone know for sure?

I was amazed when I learned it but shedding tongue skin is normal.
Hard to see but I've witnessed it a number of times.

Hmmmm...interesting. I had also heard of tongue shedding, but I have never witnessed it in any of my snakes.

Nor have I. In fact, I never even heard of it. And I'm still trying to figure out what you guys are seeing. I can't see a dang thing in those photos.

I've seen it. Snakey rubbed his tongue on my finger and it peeled off.
You're blind if you cant see it.

I didn't say I can't see it. I said I never have. Not in all my years of keeping them.

I didn't even know about it up until a couple years ago when someone posted about it.
Now, I've witnessed it a few times in my snakes.

I've never heard about it up until joining this forum. Can anyone post an independent link confirming that snakes actually do this?

Never heard of it, and i guess i'm blind because i only see the third picture showing a blurry curl of something lol
Just looks like a snake flicking its tongue out, in the second one.
It'd be interesting to keep an eye out for. Some other weird shed i've noticed before was a shed of the actual anus from my sand boa. She shed this complete shed, with the vent scale showing, and a folded in part where it *was* her opening and the whole outter layer of her cloaca. Only snake shed i've seen like that. All the others seem to tear off at that part, and leave a "vent hole" in the shed.
I suppose it makes sense that the tongue would shed...sure weird though!
Here's what i could find:

I've seen it on my boy George. Some time he sticks his tongue out slowly n moves it around slow. Its neat to see him do that! Let alone the time he did it n his tongue looked like it was falling off for a second, lol. Just a thin little piece of skin... looked like a baby earthworm slid out of his mouth.
I had read on here about snakes shed their tongues so I knew what it was n didn't worry bout it.
