Thanks here is a pic of my other female.

Hmmm... at first glance, this one doesn't appear to be a similis to me. Looks more like a "florida blue" eastern. People tend to get the two confused. I wonder if the seller did that in this case.

That's definitely a true bluestripe! Some similis just have a lighter ground coloration than others. Also, Florida Blues wouldn't have well defined lateral stripes like that.

639964006401Hey Guys sorry i was on vacation last week. The guy who caught that second female swears they are pure similis he says that local is his favorite lacal and a little lighter and more difined than the darker similis, but it's hard for me to say without some type of dna testing i do know that it looks nothing like any of the fl blue easterns that i have ever kept and has the lateral stripes like the similis. If you seen this snake in person beside a fl blue eastern you would see the difference. Here is some pics for comparison. The first two pics are fl blue easterns.

Got home from work yesterday and she had 11 BIG babies! Two have tiny eyes though not sure what causes that maybe it's because she held them too long. Last year she had 15 healthy babies. I think some other people had some babies born this year with tiny eyes. Im glad i got 9 healthy babies and they look super sharp too.

Congrats on the babies, but sorry to hear about the two with small eyes.

I have seen tiny and missing eyes in a litter of timber rattlesnakes, an Indian python, and a few other snakes. I do not know the cause for certain, but that sort of thing has been documented in swine as resulting from a mild vitamin A deficiency in the mother. Maybe it's the same cause in snakes.

Whats the temperament normally like on this species?

BLUESIRTALIS
09-17-2012, 07:32 AM
All of the similis i keep seem to be docile. I think it depends how much you interact with them so that they learn to trust you. I have 4 wildcaught adults that never try to bite or musk on me. My captive bred babies seem to be docile too. The baby albino fl. Blue easterns have an attitude but i love it when they flatten out and get grumpy it is so cute.

Here is a pic of the little ones. I couldn't get a good pic of these guys because my batteries were going dead. I can't wait to see how they color up. You can see the lateral
stripes and already some blue coloring.

Also, Florida Blues wouldn't have well defined lateral stripes like that.

If all you've seen is ones that don't have the defined lateral stripe, then naturally you would think that. Florida blues are an eastern and you know how variable they are. I still say that's a T. sirtalis sirtalis.

Hey, your link above doesn't work.

I have the moderators looking in to it. I can't submit new threads or post pics. Now to the topic about the similis. There are certain lacales that have lighter background colors. There is sirtalis sirtalis and sirtalis similis and then in some areas you find inergrades. With any wildcaught snake you never will know if they are 100% pure unless you did some type of dna testing. I can assure you the snake in that pic is not an eastern. She has a very defined blue lateral stripe and is much smaller than my fl. Easterns even the structure of her head is smaller. I can't guarantee wether she is a pure similis or an integrade, but there is no way she is a pure eastern. I have worked with hundreds of florida easterns including albinos, ery's, and apalachicola locales and i have never seen an eastern like this. If you look at the pure baby similis that have been produced lots of them have this same pattern and i know some of them darken up, but not all of them. I hope this helps!

Shawn.
Try reloading each attachment on its own line.
Seemed to fix the problem for another member when they had the same problem.

The problem is i can't submit new threads or post pics. I can only reply to a thread and if i hit the go advanced button to add pics i dont have the post quick reply button anymore so i just have to exit off. As long as i stay on the quick reply screen im fine, but i would like to be able to submit new threads and post pics again. I hope they can come up with a solution. When i try to start a new thread and i begin to type, all of the words stay on the top line no matter how many i type the line just gets longer and longer and will not switch to the next line and there is no button that says submit new thread so i can't do anything. Im not sure what's going on here.
