Hormonal mama?

Good morning.

Well I went over to mama... who has a fresh new tank that she enjoyed exploring... some food and was generally completely agreeable... to a raving lunatic this morning. I walked up to the tank and told her what a good mama she was she she just basically went nuts... repeatedly striking at the glass and FLYING around the enclosure. Didn't calm down (as least not with me standing in front of the tank).

What is the general demeanor of a mama right after birthing?

Any other thoughts? I hate to see her so agitated and of course it'll be hard on her to be handled if she gets this upset.

Babies are fine. They are always startled at first when they see movement but they all seem fine and I'm tying to handle each of them very gently a couple times a day.

I think it's just a primitive instinct, after giving birth and feeling vulnerable, she would strike at anything that moved in her vicinity.

If she continues to freak out while you're around, I'd consider covering the glass with a towel or something for a few days. She's already weak from the birthing process and that kind of added stress would have me worried.

If she continues to freak out while you're around, I'd consider covering the glass with a towel I have done that with newly acquired snakes and in my experience it has reduced stress and after several days they settle in and stop striking as I approached their tank.
