View Full Version : Pinkie mice dilemma...

So I was moving my snakes' food supply a few days ago, and didn't have a cooler. So I packed about sixty pinkies in plastic bags of ice and hoped for the best. When I got them out, they weren't completely frozen. A lot of them were still hard in the middle, but the legs weren't frozen solid. The water around them was still ice cold, just not quite cold enough to keep them frozen.
So, would these still be safe to feed? I'd hate to toss out that many mice, but I'm sort of paranoid about their food.

If the water was still cold the bacteria wouldn't be able to multiply much so they should be safe. Its only if you continuously re freeze things it starts becoming dangerous.

That's good. I would have been ticked if I had to throw out that many pinkies.

Snakes in general are capable of eating some pretty rancid meat. Just do it. :)

My pinkies always begin to thaw quickly when I have the bag out of the freezer and I am preparing to feed. I think as long as they haven't thawed completely and haven't been sitting out warm for hours...it is fine.
