I was wondering where I can get a good and preferably cheap tank. Currently I have a 20 gallon tank but I would really like something bigger. Any advice?

Craigslist, yard sales and thrift stores have been good to me.
Know what you want and how much you are willing to pay beforehand.
I wont go over $1 per gallon for used aquariums and I try to find ones that include lamps lids and other accessories.

I always look for people selling cracked and/or leaky tanks. Fishkeepers consider them junk, but I don't need them to hold water. I put a little silicone over the cracks and they're good to go.

Craigslist is the best place to get a used tank for an inexpensive price.

If you have a Petco in your area I think they are having a dollar per gallon sale going on right now. 40 gallon for 40 bucks, pretty good. Brand new with no cleaning up or fixing.

so far I have accumulated five of the 4 foot long (55 gallon?) aquariums for free.

Just keep your eyes open, People will put leaky fish tanks out front of the house with a sign that says "free" every once in a while.

I stopped buying aquariums ages ago, I never pass up a free one, not ever. as a result I have 4 down in the basement as backups... I still would not turn down one today.

You can also check local aquarium forums. They usually have a buy/sell section and most of the tank prices are pretty consistent and cheap.

I don't know where you are but Denver craigslist is a gold mine for used tanks (compared to Baltimore, where I used to live). This weekend someone was selling a 100gal with stand for $100. I grabbed a complete 30gal hex aquarium kit with real wood stand for $50.

Build one! Look and ask around at places that sell n install windows, they often have a bunch of used windows for free or really really cheap. Then build a box around it.

Craigs list is a good place, tag sales, etc. I just got a free 35 gallon hexagon tank with everything but the lid from my neighbor cause my daughter noticed it sitting in their garage empty. My husband re-caulked it and I am getting the water stable for fish. It's beautiful!

Another place I saw an empty tank was Habitat for Humanity resale store. You never know what is there. Also, GoodWill stores sometimes have them.

Have you tried talking to any of the veterans' groups in your area? Maybe one of them might be able to tell you where to get a tank.
