The T.radix Ranch is now a FedEx reptile certified shipper.
I thought I would post the process I went through for anyone that might be interested.
The great thing about it is the fact FedEx will pay for the shipping to test your package.
1. You need to have a FedEx account first and it is free. Account Options (http://www.fedex.com/us/oadr/)
2. You need to prepare a package for shipping that has everything but the animal in it.
Here is a link to assist you in creating the proper package. https://www.box.com/s/v5g8mu1kl2dehnj6bb9r
3. You now need to contact FedEx and obtain the special FedEx account # for billing the test package back to them.
4. Now, fill out the Package Testing Application http://images.fedex.com/us/services/pdf/PKG_Packaging_Test_Application.pdf
This form needs to be placed on the outside on the test box. On this form you can choose to be notified by email as to the results and also to
to have your package returned (free) after testing.
Now, ship your package.
5. After shipping you will be contacted by FedEx with the results. If your package passes you need to contact your representative with the test
result number you were sent. They will prepare the legal contract that will need to be signed and returned.
Be sure to write down all the names and numbers to the people you contact.
This process took approximately 2 weeks to complete.

Now that you're certified, does that mean that they found you certifiable?

Thanks Don for this perfect seque.
I now have an account with reptilesexpress and will be using them as my shippers.
Here are some reasons why:
1. On average they are $20.00 cheaper then through my account.
2. The shipment price is refundable if it's late and the fault of FedEx(this guarantee is not available to me as a FedEx shipper)
3. They will ship to a residents. (FedEx forces me to ship to a business address or to a FedEx hub)
4. They have great customer support.

I know it's an older post but that's great info Steve. I got authorized with fed ex back in 02 if i remember. It may have been before that but I don't remember. I do remember I was one of the first in NY and there were only a few in the country back then. The difference was for me is it took almost 6 months for the entire process. I'm glad they sped it up. I have shipped thousand if snakes( and geckos) and It's been relatively problem free however everyone should know that when you sign the agreement(at least back then) you absolved fed ex of any responsibility should your animals die for whatever reason enroute to their destination. Has that changed since then? Thanks. Mike Panichi

My Spring/Summer shipping window has just closed. Reptilesexpress.com did a great job and saved my customers some money. Reptilesexpress customer service has been awesome.
I may still ship to certain locations if I can ship to a FedEx hub for customer pickup.
Thank you to everyone who is now enjoying some of my snakes.

Out of curiosity, how have things gone with FedEx? I work for FedEx ground as a package handler and I have to say that the packages are not treated well, so I would be concerned with sending a live animal through them, though I assume they use a different system than for normal packages. I just know that the majority of their employees do not care about any package, no matter what the content. And I've heard horror stories about some packages that have been shipped through them.

I would give FedEx an 9 out of 10 rating.
