I've been into snakes for over 30 years and I am still learning. I love the Garter care sheet you guys have. I did not realize all the things Garters could and couldn't eat. Thanks to the guide of fish they can eat, I was able to get some fresh Salmon today and all the baby Checkered Garter Snakes ate. They look so cute with their fat little bellies full of fish. Thanks Wayne for sending me here, it is a great site.

Don't let your babies gorge themselves on fish. There have been some deaths when this happens.
I think there are two issues with regards to the fish. (just my opinion)
1- There is something in the fish that kills them. Pesticides, heavy metals, preservatives, coloring, etc.
2- For some babies I don't think they are developed enough to handle such a large meal. Basically eating themselves to death.
Just a word to the wise.
Any other thoughts on this issue are more then welcome.

Yes this is a great site!!!
Thanks for the info on not letting babies stuff themselves Steve. I was wondering if I should let them just eat as much as they wanted.

I've never seen any issues with worms but fish seems to be a problem.

Where I have seen the problems is packaged frozen fish, since I switched to fresh killed trout, I have not had any problems at all.

Really is a great site. I myself use trout and frozen silversides. Never had a problem with these. Fish can be a tricky thing to feed.

Play it safe, wait a few more months. Even then I wouldn't let him stuff himself on fish fillet.
Just my opinion.
