I picked up some nightcrawlers today from the pet store. He didnt really show much interest so I mixed in two little fish. He gobbled those up right away and then I offered him a piece of worm. He ate it, but looked kinda upset that it wasnt a fish. He will go over to his dish and look at the other pieces, but doesnt seem to want to eat them.

is there a trick that i can use to get Dex to like the nightcrawlers?
what is the right way to 'scent' food items to peek his interest?

Picky eaters will many times start eating foods they don't seem to like when they are good and hungry.
You might try skipping 1 or 2 meal times and then offer worms. Missing a couple of meals won't hurt him a bit.
It's actually good to show him who the boss is.:D

Lol. I grabbed my two really really big guppies and kinda rubbed them all over the last few pieces of the worms. He took them. Now he is good and full.

The fish werent too thrilled about the whole experience lol.

i may feed him again sunday.

Me too. I am glad that he is comfortable enough to eat while I watch or while i hold food in front of him.

I was advised by another site that deals with garters to try pinky mice, but to cut them in half. I kinda want to wait till he is eating worms regularly and without scenting. I dont wanna waste money on baby mice if he is gonna turn his little nose up at them.

Or should I try to offer pinky parts? at some point.

Slipping a few pinky part won't hurt anything.

Thought this might be an appropriate link to share. One of our other members, Shannon, created this video. It hasn't failed me yet!
