Normally Garter Snakes settle well into a captive environment, Lindsey. For general information on their needs try reading through this article;

But, just to point out, most of the snakes in your pictures are not Garter Snakes, but are Brown Snakes (or Dekays Snakes) Storeria dekayi.

well like i said 7 were red bellies (Northern Red Belly)they only grow to be probably 12inches at the most, they dont bite at all but that other one that i took pictures of twice i was pretty sure that was a garter

Great photos Lindsey:) . The Garters looks like T. sirtalis sirtalis to me. If I decide to keep one from the wild, I pretty much leave it to it's self for the first week or two and allow it time to adjust to a captive enviroment. Doing this I've never had a problem with one.

Welcome to the forum from South Carolina.

Very nice finds!

Oddly enough, I haven't seen a single snake this year. Last year you couldn't help running into one. But then again, they say it's a poor rodent year this year..

Nice looking pics and very nice Eastern garter (T.s.sirtalis). Funny about him biting the cam a couple times, they can be scrappy little buggars sometmies.....LOL.

Oh I know this one was quite calm compared to others it seems the bigger they are the more ticked off they get. The was a huge garter living under my garage measure more then 2 feet and it was thick too but unfortunatly when my mother was mowing the lawn it crossed the path of the riding lawn mower :(
