I was having trouble in the sleep dept. this morning so I decided to do a security check in the snake room.
As I passed each paddock to shinned the light from my flashlight in. Most of the snakes were out from under there hide and sleeping.
I've seen this behavior before but now wanted to ask if you see the same in your snakes.
This was a species wide event.
Apparently the darkness offers them a feeling of security?
Thoughts?

I find when my room is really dark my snakes all stay on their branches, wrapped up around each other. I have the boys and the 3 babies (also boys, so thaat would be their tank soon anyways) and so I had 5 little snakes curled up around each other on the branch, and one big snake (Snakey) curled around them. It's very cute.

Yes. I have several that sleep in the open at night and a couple that will sleep in the open any time.

My Zamensis Situla comes out and lays on a kind of balcony in the fake rock wall I've made. It will lay here and sleep all night and then go down to it's hides on the floor during the day.

My marcianus seems to be more active and hungry in the night.I've heard they are more nocturnal than some of the other species.

Mine stays in his hide at night(I guess technically I don't know what he does when I'm sleeping:p) and seems to be the most active first thing in the morning.

I have one boy who likes to sleep in a "bird" house made of straw and rest his head out over the side.

Interesting, I'll have to look for this more closely. My marcianus seem to sleep under cover for the most part, but when not sleeping are almost always out cruising or redecorating. I have found them to be somewhat active at night at times as well.

Both Cuitzeos will often sleep out at night, either on a platform or in a water bowl.
The Blacknecks go through spells when they sleep up at the top of the plants in their viv, but they do that day or night.
Radix I've not noticed, although with the Lipwig being in our bedroom at the moment we nearly always see him out when we go to bed, but can't be sure that he hasn't just come out in response to the light.
Checkered girls rarely sleep with their whole bodies out, although Eskerina will frequently leave her arse sticking out of a hide.
