Found....1/3 of a snake..

I found this garter snake skeleton just like this in Kansas. I am guessing it's a garter due to where I found it, lots of red siders. The skeleton is to narrow for a water snake or the crayfish snakkes found at this pond. Cool find!!!

I was more than surprised when found it...was hunting for red siders at this pond..lifted a rock and there it was....absolutely amazed me!!! :eek:

Under a rock... well that is why it stayed in good condition... and I wonder if the rock shifted and that is what killed it... or was it sick and just crawled in there to recuperate and did not make it...:(

I am thinking it was sick...no obvious injuries to the skeleton...is intact except for a couple missing ribs...

Its awesome!! Couldve been an old animal that lived out its lifespan. Be interesting to know how much it weighs.

Beautiful skeleton. Mind you don't get haunted by a snake ghost now...

I found a dried up little slow worm a couple of days ago, it made my heart jump a little... at first glance it looked a little like a garter. Not that I was missing one, but I guess I am a tinsy bit traumatised still from the hamster drama. :(

And I've always been fascinated by skulls in general (baboon and swine skulls are pretty interesting). And I'm waiting for an opportunity to take a few pictures of those enlarged teeth that garters have. There's a picture in Strumpfbandnattern, but it's not that good.

No, the fang is from a Gaboon Viper...it's huge!

That's true. But the longest in relation to the size of the snake is the Malayan Pit Viper, Calloselasma rhodostoma. Which I think is a more impressive claim to fame.
