For the last year I've toyed with the idea of re-homing all my non-garter species.
I finally started that process.
Tonight, 5 of those snakes left the Ranch to a good home.
I let my pair of hypo-melanistic bull snakes, pair of gray banded kings and a ball python go tonight.
My fox snakes are next to leave in a couple of days.
I will miss them all but, I want to concentrate on the best species of all Thamnophis.;)

Sounds like and awesome idea. I know the ranch could always use more garters!
Also Steve I'm no expert, nor do I claim to be, but if I'm not mistaken, Thamnophis is the best genus....:D
....Please correct me if I'm wrong any one....

No, that sounds pretty right. But yeah more space for garters.
Probably a bit hard letting them go.
I know I've been a bit tempted to trade Fry in for a more friendlier model to make room for maybe a nice pair of female garter, but I'm finding it hard to do.

Just think about the space you've got for garters now - either more room for the current headcount, or a couple more large vivs for new heads. :)
(PS: Go Mexican.)

I would correct you if you were wrong but you are correct. The error was all mine. Guess I had radix on the brain at that moment.
I stand correct.;):D

I can understand getting rid of the non Garter snakes...
I love my banana cali king snake... but she is BORING lol She is only active when she is hungry, then I feed her n she hides n sleeps for the next week!
She is nice to hold though, so chilled out n will just sit in my pocket n watch the world go by, or bite me...
I like my Thamnophis way better.

The very reason I came home from the expo with a concinnus baby instead of a corn...the garters were whispering to me when I was looking at the corns and kings...."Ungrateful, unloyal...how could you even think about another snake? You know you want another garter...get another garter". Lol....

Gray banded kings are beautiful. I'd have a very hard time letting them go. :)

It really is incredible that most people prefer Royals to Garters. It just makes no sense on so many levels.

I think it's because there's more money to be made breeding them and are more interested in the pretty morphs and colours than the actual animal.

They're a bubble like dutch tulip bulbs. People look at them as investments but really all they have is a $100 snake with eye appeal.
I look at the ratio of cost of normal phenotypes to "designer" balls... I've seen baby balls for as little as $15, which means some people are using 400x markups or more for their high-end snakes. Even the most expensive garter morphs top out at about 20x.

To be honest I still have one larger snake.
I kept Helen my blind Fox snake. She will be on the Ranch for the rest of her life.

My parents have been talking about getting a new snake soon, since I'm going to be taking Harley and Houdini with me when I move in a couple weeks. They were talking about getting a black rat snake, and I immediately refused to allow them to do this, and have been looking up garters online for them ever since (and I MAY have also looked into getting a pretty little erythristic or ery/albino boyfriend for Harley... I can stop ANY time, I mean it) :D

Just repeat after me "hello, my name is Lora and I'm addicted to garter snake" and the forum said in unison " hi Lora":D

I wake up and the first thing I do is say good morning to my snakies. I call them silly faces. "Good morning my little silly faces, good morning!" They come out to greet me and I turn the light on for them. They know the vibration of your voice I think. They are such awesome and amazing creatures! I wuv them!
