I picked up some baby worms yesterday and introduced two of them to Bobbie this morning. Like with the small guppy, Bobbie first "played" with the wiggling creatures and then left them alone before returning to eat them. I can not begin to express how happy I feel now that he's eaten! I'm also completely shocked at how both those worms were able to fit inside Bobbie's stomach. He looks so stuffed and fat! :p

That is great news.
I must ask where you picked up baby worms?

Walmart. They'd adult sized worms, trout worms, and then baby worms. I thought that the baby worms would be the best size for Bobbie since he's so tiny.

Yes, took me forever to find them since I don't usually shop in that part of the store; plus they'd recently moved the fridge.

If the baby worms are a D.M.F. Bait product then they are safe.
I was concerned they were trout worms which are bad for garters.

I've never heard of a left worm. Let me look into it.

Yes, the worms are DMF. So were the adults. The trout worms were of a different company.

Wanting to make sure they weren't "red wigglers" I think.

They tend to be smaller and sort of harder than other earth worms. They also have a more red banded look to them, sort of red & yellowish bands which you can see more clearly on the right side of that pic above (but all in the pic are the same). There are conflicting reports that they're either fatally toxic or just plain old unappetizing & upsetting to Garters. Either way they should be avoided.

I've bought my nightcrawlers at Wal-Mart the last couple times. I was buying them from a local bait shop around the corner but he wanted $3 for a dozen and Wal-Marts are 20 worms for less. Plus a friend mentioned to look into where the bait shop gets the nightcrawlers because some local shops get the worms from the area golf courses (chemicals), so until I know for sure I've been skipping them. I looked at the baby ones the last time I was there. Is there much difference in the smalls and large? I love the side of the container... "Our worms will catch fish or die trying." I noticed the worms are labeled as Canadian Nightcrawlers but the company selling them is based out of Michigan. Does everyone think these are safe to use as far as chemical free?

Glad you got your adorable little one to eat!! The smallest worms I've been able to find are mediums at my work. Which is nice since I get a discount :D

I've been feeding DMF Bait Co. worms for years without incident.
