First Tamnophismeeting in the Netherlands

The number of Dutch garterkeepers is growing almost by the day, so therefore Gijs and me decided to organize a Thamnophismeeting for a small group of Dutch (and Belgium;) ) garterkeepers.

So last sunday the third of june it was that day. At 9:00 am we meet at Steven Bol his place. He's got quite an impressive collection and very rare species. And he also got an outside enclosure (not sure if this is the right word) with T.s.pickeringii and T.radix radix.
We were also very lucky to witness the birth of melanistic easterns !!

It looks like you had a good day, Sabine. I like the outdoor enclosure, it looks great. Will Steven be breeding the T. eques? I am not familiar with the sub-species cuitzeonensis.

At the end of the day the group came to our new garterroom. In all the excitement I forgot to make some more pics at our place:o

And than we had diner together in a Chinese restaurant.
It was a very succesfull day and everybody was entusiastic about it, so probebly we will organize another meeting next year
Maybe there are some members who can put some more pics with it ( Fons, Hans ;) )
I wanna thank Steven Bol and Paul Storm for being so friendly to show there garters and other watersnakes to us.

@ Adamanteus: Yes, he will breed them this year. It's a night active species that uses his white tail, by moving it like a worm, to attract prey. You can see that in the pic.

I had a great time. It was fun and interesting. It was also very nice to get ideas for later... No picture's from me though, I don't have a camera of my own:(, but Fons will certainly post some nice one's. Thanks again Sabine & Gijs for organising it;)

I have to agree with everybody, that snake looks great, but I can't get it from them and I'm not going to Europe any time soon. :(

Steven Bol is planning to make a second outdoor enclosure. So by the time he's ready we will definitely organize another trip :rolleyes:

I gues you mean here in Holland. As far as I know Steven Bol is the only one with garters. There are some with european lizards. And I know there are some German garterkeepers with outdoor enclosures.

@Don: We went to 3 breeders that day. Those central american species are not from Fons. But the breeder who has them, always has some very rare animals in his care... And I'm on his waiting list, so maybe next year:rolleyes:

cool i didnt think u could take snakes outside in sun, got told that when i bought my first garter 2 weeks ago, they sed cant take it out for more than 15mins a week lol.

They maybe meant that you shouldn't place the snakes' enclosure in direct sunlight, where the snake can't retire to shade if it needs to. An outdoor enclosure is quite different, offering ample opportunity for it's inhabitants to thermoregulate freely.

WOW.....great pics Fons! I just love that outdoor enclosure. Might have to try and give that a go myself with some T.s.sirtalis. Hmmmm....got the wheels turning!:eek:
