Hi all,

Just wanted to share this albino T. elegans vagrans. It's a wild caught female from northern Utah. I'm in the process of getting a locale specific group together to make more. Sorry about the tweed background... it's hard on the eyes...

Thanks. Zooplan, she is about a foot long, probably a small two year old, judging by when she was found etc.

Thanks guys. She's a very small two year old, judging by her size when she was found several weeks ago.

Can you post another photo showing relative size?
So you're in Utah now or Maine?

Thanks for posting those other photos.
Any chance we can get an underside tail photo.
I just want to be sure of the sex.
Did you say this snake is 2 years old?

Joshua
06-03-2012, 07:34 PM
It's estimated to be two years old based on the size when it was found. I'm pretty sure it's very near the same age as the normal pictured with it. It was found mid-spring, and is too big to be a 2011, so I am assuming it's a small 2010.

i would guess that shes from last year

I can't wait to see what kind of babies she produces.

Joshua

That was my original thought, but being that close to Idaho, I would think the winter is longer, giving her less time to get that much size before hibernation. Then again, I'm not all that familiar with the climate of Northern Utah..

good luck with her, hope she produces hets for you....try fall breeding with this species or just keep them together till they produce:)

they come out early in spring ond go into hibernation late in fall.... have had a few found here in SLC in November. she is probably a yearling from last year.

Neat looking albino, best of luck with it. Very cool to find one in the wild.
How certain are you of the sex? I would have actually guessed male from the top view of the tail, but just based on the pics available and no for sure reference point of the vent so it might be deceiving. I wonder if Steve was thinking the same thing asking for an underside pic.

Joshua

I'm 98% sure it's female, but I'll check again eventually.

The normal is definitely a female. Guess I lucked out more than I thought.

They're doing great. After treatments, the fecals are clear, and they're annihilating F/T pink and fuzzy mice off forceps.

They've proven hard as hell to photograph, but I'll see if I can get some reasonable shots this weekend.

Here's the albino male. The normal female is not being at all cooperative. Even though I didn't use flash and the sun was setting, this pic still looks washed out. This photography thing just isn't my forte, I guess :)

Is he missing the two scales on his head? Or is it just his colouring?

mikem
07-14-2012, 05:33 PM
Beautiful! Looks like his coloring Chantel.

Joshua
07-14-2012, 05:54 PM
Yes, just his colouring. The female had a perfect shed, but he still has a few stuck scales here and there. Now that they're feeding regularly and all that jazz, he should shed again in no time and then hopefully it will be smooth sailing for many years to come.

I was just asking since it looked like it and Richard's Amy was born without the middle scale on his head.

Update pic after a shed. The lavender is pretty neat. He wouldn't stop moving for a full body pic.
