Got some positive feedback on a picture of my albino Harley that I posted in the Welcom forum, so I thought I'd share a few of the other good ones that I have!

I love the red pine chip bedding and how it sets off her yellow, but I haven't been able to find it at any of the local pet stores lately...

Great looking little scrub.
Love that third photo.
So, you bought custom colored substrate to match your snakes eyes. Nice touch.:D

Nice pics, but I've heard/read that pine and cedar bedding are somewhat toxic to snakes and small animals.

As long as there is no smell to the pine bedding it should be fine. Usually those types of bedding are left to cure and the resin is eventually removed. But, it's always best to avoid anything you're unsure about.

Actually I don't think it IS pine bedding; I don't know why I always call it that. Probably because I used to have a guinea pig when I was a little kid that did use pine bedding that looked similar. The bedding I use for the snake is called "ZooMed Aspen Snake Bedding" and I've used it the entire time I've had her until this most recent trip to the pet shop where I bought the ZooMed forest floor bedding... She likes to tunnel under the substrate and I noticed she had an easier time of doing that with the aspen chips. The new stuff is not cedar; I made sure.

But yes, the red was a bit more expensive, but I bought it to match haha :) She disappeared in the natural color chips!

Pine is fine. I've used it for years with zero issues & pretty much every large breeder that uses shavings uses it as well. They're safe and very inexpensive at farm supply stores (about $6 for 9 cubic feet). Also consider that pretty much every feeder rodent is born, raised and live their whole lives in the stuff.

If it's not kiln dried is where one could possibly run into issues with the phenols. I can't speak for other places but I can't even find non kd pine shavings these days anyway. The pine shavings for the pet industry & agricultural use is kiln dried, it doesn't even say it on the bags any more.

Ack I cut off my post.. Meant to say first off, beautiful marcianus :)
To be honest I would be more concerned with the artificial dyed substrates than I would with Pine.

Hey All!! I've been gone for several weeks... got a second job and a few intense projects at school and things got a little hectic. Since I've upped her feeding intake Harley has grown quite a bit, and is also more relaxed and easy to handle all around!! A fully satiated snake is a happy snake I suppose :) Here is a pic I took of her tonight! It's not a full body image but I liked the focus and the colors.

In addition, I'm trying out some new bedding. It's made from 100% organic recycled coconut husks, and the packaging recommends it for pythons, boas, garter snakes, corn snakes, and a few other lizards and reptiles. The brand name is "Coco Soft" and as soon as I placed her in it, she was exploring and tunneling everywhere. She always likes a substrate that is easy to burrow in, and this stuff absorbs odor and is burrow-able, so I recommend it :)
