We have come to a decision. Her name will be Shelby. We named her after one of Bill's heros Carrol Shelby, who designed the Cobra, the Super Snake, and many other beautiful racing machines.

Yes she is new. We were doing yard work at my mom's house on Sat. and found her. My mom had a really big pile of brush clippings and tree limbs that needed taken care of. Well while we were doing that Shelby came out if the pile. We destroyed either her home or hunting ground, so I felt like we had to take her in. Plus she is a beautiful girl.

My mom came over today to check out miss Shelby. She loves her. She had a request. She wanted to add a name in honor of where she was found. So her name is now Shelby Rose.

I don't think I would be able to do hot snakes, they are illegal to keep in my state, plus, I would be scared to get bit. She has a cool attitude though:)

Thanks. As soon as I took another look and discovered the truth. I apologized and he promptly crawled up my face and curled around my glasses. He sat there just hanging out for about 10 min. until I had to remove him (which he didn't want to go). He still hasn't eaten, but we are still adjusting.

Have you tried placing some food on a small lid and placing it under the hide?
Sometimes they will start eating in the comfort and security of their hide.
Just an idea.

Yeah, I have. It looked as though he had just eaten when we got him so I'm not too worried yet. We'll keep at him, he's gotta eat at some point. :)

He did seem a bit small for a female, but I had just assumed that he was young. Runt looks like a male because she's small... But that's her name for a reason! Haha.

Yeah I thought he was just young too. I still think he is young, but not as young as he would seem if he were a she. Probably next year we'll put him in with one of the girls and see what happens.

If he's smaller than Snakey, he might be a little young... But, these little guys don't really get all that big. ;)
At first glance you wouldn't think Snakey was almost 8 years old.

Shelby had a worm this evening. This is his first meal with us. I'm very pleased. He has a nice full tummy and is one happy boy!

Shelby has not eaten since the 10th. He is losing weight and looks quite skinny. Not sure what is going on with him to lose so much weight so fast. I'm worried about him. If he doesn't eat something in the next couple of days we will be releasing him back where he was found. I think it is what is best for him. He is still active and tongue flicks and drinks water so I think he just doesn't like captivity.

Sometimes you run across a snake like that. I've had a couple radixes do the same thing.

I'm not sure what went wrong, but Shelby passed some time time during the night. I very upset. I feel like it's my fault for not letting him go. I'll miss him. :(

Come on Kat you had Shelby eating and this incident happened quickly. Not like releasing him even a week or two ago would have made any difference.
Sounds like a per-existing problem that just happened to cause his death on your watch.
The passing of Shelby is tough but in my opinion not your fault.
You did all you could.;)

Thanks Steve. It's just hard to lose a pet. He was so pretty, I wanted to breed him when he was old enough. Any thought on what could have been the cause? He lost so much weight so fast, was it a parasite?

Sounds like it could be a combination of parasites and old age.
There's really no way to know.
