My baby female scotti doesn't like me. She spends most of the day under her carefresh ultra. I only handle my garters a few times during the week to either feed them ,clean their enclosure and/or inspect them making sure they are healthy. Every time I pick up my scotti she is extra flighty and if we make eye contact she opens her mouth and keeps it open as it to bite me and when I put her back in her enclosure she faces off with me and sometimes opens her mouth and lunges at me. Last time I picked her up she bit me and I think musked me = /

Yes, and good luck with her sounds like she has quite abit of attitude.

It can be...sometimes it is mixed in with a bit of urates or poop...if they are stressed enough, they will urinate or defecate on you as well. You know musk because it stinks! Don't give up hope...my favorite girl, Cee Cee...who is wild caught...was terrified of me for at least a year. Now she comes over to me if I stick my hand in the tank...often comes out to see me if I call to her...and sometimes she even climbs out of her tank into my hands for a cuddle. Take it slow and give the snake time. Start by just putting your hand in the tank and letting the snake come to you for a while. I also have a female radix that is slowly coming around. When I first got her back in March...she was fine...then a couple months later she started biting the crap out of me whenever I would try to put my hands near her. Now she is coming around. She still tries to bite me sometimes, but if I show her I am not scared and not into her nonsense and just pick her up anyway...she calms down and cuddles. It took some time though...I had to leave her be for a while and take it very slow with her.

Thanks William, this is my first group of Concinnus and they were so small, I was sort of worried I was going to have trouble getting them to eat for me.

Small? compared to what? Those are pretty decent size for 2 month old concinnus'. They've grown noticably since birth. You should see the baby northwesterns. They're half that size, if not smaller.

All the ones I've shipped out eat consistently, and have even grown a noticable amount. Any that don't fit that catagory are separated until they do, or are determined to be "failure to thrive" babies. I didn't even put up the ad until they were a month old. That gives me the time needed to determine which ones are which, and gets them a good start before shipping.;)

Some breeders (I won't mention names) sell them before they are even born, then ship as soon as they take a single meal. Unfortunately, that first meal is live tiny fish so there's no guarantee they will eat anything else. I like to make sure they accept all the widely available stuff. Worms, fish fillet, pinky parts, etc., and make sure they eat consistently over at least a few weeks.

When you can't do "unconditional" 7-day guarantees like unnamed breeders, (I only guarantee they will arrive alive and good shape. I won't necessarily have your money after delivery day) you got to do something to ensure the babies shipped out are doing well ahead of time. I assume people will try to feed them in that 7 days. I want to ensure they will eat just about anything for anyone and so, you at least have my word, all babies shipped out are feeding well. Not just once, but many times consistently.

For concinnus' "feeding well" means aggressively attacking the food and getting into fights.:p

I wouldn't count on the "regular" being normal. Remember, the only ones I know of that turned out as adults, to be the blue/green anery morph looked perfectly normal as babies.;)

I look forward to seeing updates on these guys. I actually didn't keep any for myself. Just a few young adults which are already fully anery.

Steve question....does brumating effect the number of babies or only the likelihood of pregnancy? In other words if the snakes were NOT brumated would they possibly have a smaller clutch?

Hypo my eye. That reddish brown color appears to me to be pheomelanin which is a form of the amino acid tyrosine. It's failure to oxidise into melanin can only mean one thing. The snake has no(or defective) tyrosinase, the enzyme that is key to oxidizing tyrosine, turning it into melanin. No melanin synthesis in an animal is what albinism, or amelanism is!!! "Hypomelanistic" animals have melanin, it's just not a normal amount. This snake has no melanin at all. The snake is a T (tyrosine) positive albino.
