This female Thamnophis sirtalis dorsalis is by far the most voracious garter snake i have at this moment. It's outrageous how much she eats. It is a good thing I only feed her with smelt. If I had fed her with mice, she would be at anaconda-size now. This subspecies is quite shy, but when there is food in the terrarium, she forgets her shyness. The other three only eat when they cannot see me. But for this female the temptation is to big. She is born in 2011 and way over 50 cm long now.

Good looking snake, and the first time I've seen any reference to this species in captivity. Looks-wise very similar to a concinnus to my eye. Are there many of them around, or just your group?

In the Netherlands I think my two pair are the only one. In Germany there are some more, but also not that much. The breeder of my specimen is from Germany (Markus Kaun) and he wrote an article about this subspecies in one of the last magazines of the European Garter Snake Association.
