Has anyone ever kept these? I found one yesterday and they look a lot like garters!

I've not, but they are neat looking. I found this. Regina grahamii - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regina_grahamii). It has good info.

Hey Starling i heard that they were very hard to keep in captivity but i have never tried personally. A friend of mine had one that would eat the tail meat of crawfish and occasionally minnows.

Or you could/should release it back into the wild. Hint, hint.

I say this with the health of the snake in mind. At the point you decide it isn't working the snakes health may be jeopardized.
Just something to keep in mind.

I've always wanted to keep ringneck snakes (Diadophis punctatus) but I know very few people who have had success.
I won't risk the snakes life for my interest.
They are awesome looking snakes but difficult to keep. I'll just admire them in the wild.

They are cool....I find them in Kansas a lot when I'm there. keeping a decent supply of live crayfish for them is tough

Made the right decision letting him go! In the future, there is a captive strain known as marbled crayfish or marmorkrebs that breed asexually. They multiply and grow very rapidly. I'm sure you could culture these to feed any snake of the genus Regina.
