This evening I went out in the backyard to collect some slugs for my Northwesterns (T.ordinoides).
Turning over a board I found this good looking female T.radix. She looked full of food and apparently poop(if you know what I mean).
Checking her over I found a perfect little radix with one concern.
I'm guessing it's a birth defect with her right eye.
Her name is Tiny Eye. Looking forward to watching her grow on the Ranch.

That's odd, do you think she sees okay out of it Steve?

What a pretty girl! I wonder if snakes can have micropthalmia? I know some dogs that are born with it, particuarly the ones that are born "partially albino"(i.e. dachshunds born with the white and gray markings, among other breeds).

Yeah one of my dachshunds had that condition and he was blind on that side, but some are lucky enough to have some sight. It could very well be this same condition in Tiny Eye.

Not sure what's going on. I've never seen a snake with this before. Any snake.

Nice catch Steve I wouldn't have noticed that defect, the first pic showing the defect reminds me of kingsnakes

With that defect in dogs being more prevalent in albinos, maybe she is het?

One of my dreams is to someday find an albino in my backyard.

*UPDATE*
After taking a few macro photos of the eye I'm not sure the snake has a tiny eye.
It looks to me like their is a normal size eye in there and that maybe the orbit is the problem.
It looks to me like something is wrong with the area around that eye. It looks sunken in to me.
I'm wondering if this snake as a baby was injured and as she grows the eye orbit is getting smaller. Just a thought.
The lower jaw not lining up wasn't an issue. It only occured in the photo.
I would like any other ideas you might have, please.
Tinyeye is a sweet little radix and I hope she will be with me for a long time.
I'll try to get a few macros of the normal side and post them for comparison.

It definitely looks like the scale above the eye is smaller than the opposite scale. Perhaps it is just a developmental problem?

Hmm thats strange to see. Like I've said I don't know much about snakes(yet!), but just in general I would assume either congenital defect or possible old injury like you said, Steve. Just hope it doesn't seem to be hurting her:)

How did her eye exam go? Can she see out of it?

Still, its an interesting weird little quirk with her. It easily could be one or the other, its hard to tell.
But still, sweet looking girl.

Sorry, forgot all about that info.
It appears she does have vision in that eye.

This kind of reminds me of when those Oranda goldfish have an overgrown wen (the "brain") that covers part or all of their eye. Probably totally different though right?

Tiny Eye continues to do well. Now, she comes out for food and is much more calm when being handled.

Looking back on this, she kind of reminds me of my one eyed marcianus! Tiny Eye and Winky could be best friends :) Has she grown much?

How has this girl been? Just remembered her, after the Thamnophis sirtalis similis thread.

She is doing very well. She fed today and filled up. She's very comfortable being hand fed.
She's shed twice since being here.
Thanks for asking.

Good to hear:) I just scanned through this thread(hadn't done that when I asked about her a minute ago), and I had forgotten about how you found out she seems to have a normal eye, just a smaller orbit. I wonder if this could be the case with the similis babies?

Luckily, Tiny Eye was up in the vines when I went looking for her. I wanted to give her a few pinkies but didn't want her salvage roommates to bother her.
She enjoyed 3 pinkies while her buddies harassed me for food. :D
