Hi everyone, and especially new members, welcome. I haven't been on since last fall, as farming and a large family takes all my time, but just wanted to tell all the fantastic members who helped me out last fall that my little brown snake , Bev, had a great winter (I kept her awake). She is almost a foot long now and is doing fantastic. I will try to send a few pics soon. I hope everyone has a great summer!

Nice to see you back on the forum. Little brown snakes are awesome.
What's she eating?

Hi Everyone
Thanks for your posts. Bev has been eating slugs most of the time, with the odd earthworm. I usually cut the worms into pieces, but she really prefers slugs. I had a big tub in the basement all winter that kept me going okay. My husband teased me about my slug farm. It is interesting how attached Dave has become to Bev, as he was not enthusiastic about snakes, but I think he really has grown fond of her!

Thanks for your interest in our little brown snake. She has been a great ice breaker for our visitors who are afraid of snakes, and especially good for small children, as she is not big enough to be scary to them. The only downside is that I cant let anyone else hold her, as she is lightning fast if startled. I feel it is good to introduce snakes to children at a young age as friendly and curious creatures, so Bev is a great ambassador!
PS - hopefully I will get better with my new camera. :D

It is interesting how these wonderful garters work their magic on people who usually don't care for snakes. My mother was very "anti-snake" before I became an enthusiast, and now she often looks in on my snakes and checks on them...with one of them in particular, she will often stop by his enclosure and talk to him. People who come by to visit who are afraid of snakes become curious and want to see my garters. Like you, I am unable to let people hold my snakes because they become too skiddish around others. Still...they seem to work some kind of magic...;).
