Hi guys, I just got my second garter. I actually ordered this one from an online rep store. I probably shouldn't have but I thought this would reduce the chance of the two guys being directly related (just in case of breeding down the line, not that I plan to yet but I like to think ahead).
The garter in question is a great little guy and was born late 2011(november I believe), but I'm concerned about its eye cap. I'm assuming this is a retained cap but all retained caps I've had in the past were clear. I'm also assuming its a retained eye cap as it has retained shed on its tail.

So I do need to name this little guy. But more importantly, could peoples give me advice as to how to precede with this eye cap? Best method to remove it or maybe leave it until the next shed. Being so young this shouldn't be too long. I'm also unsure how long ago it shed.
Any is appreciated
many thanks

There's many methods you can use i prefer to use any of these two methods :
Place snake in a damp pillow case for a few hours (the water softens the eye cap and the gentle friction from the pillow case removes the ocular scale).
Use a product called Viscotears which is a water based eye lubricant and massage it around the edges of the affected ocular and then over the entire ocular scale. Leave the snake for 5 minutes and using a pair of tongues gently pull the retained scale away. If you haven't done it before this method will freak you out a bit.

Sometime in a shed box as suggested above might let the snake take care of it on its own.
If I can't see any shed on the edge of the eye cap I leave it alone until the next shed. Especially if I don't know when the shed was.
The caps can fuss to the new cap and I don't want to run the risk of injuring that new cap.

What a cutie!
Id provide a warm moist hide filled w spagnum and then keep a close watch for the next shed.

I've used viscotears before for this, worked like a charm but i'm unsure with this but I knew what the score was with that. I'm going to go with Steve on this, as I have no clue when it last shed and I can't see any shed on the edge of the eye.
Thank you both for your help :)

Although saying that, a warm damp bag for a few hours probably wouldn't hurt :)
