Marley's gender is in the air and I need some more opnions on it. Mostly because I just rescently ordered a female to be Marley's roommate and I'm trying to keep it same sex for the time being. I thought I had a grasp of sexing, but I guess not.

These are the most rescent underside pictures that I have. Anymore will have to wait until tonight or tomorrow.

So young female, or male in drag.

I'm saying that's a male. And Bob Marley was a guy...so was Marley the dog in Marley and Me...so Marley could work for a male name too. :)

If you ordered a female for a roomie, I think you may want to look into getting another enclosure...on plan on some babies in the future....Did you order a female of the same subspecies?

Well I orignally thought that Marley was a male in the beginning so thats why I went with it.

But the roomate is going to be a albino parietalis from Jason. Now he does have males too.

Now I did call my lizard store and I'm taking Marley in to their snake guy to get a confermation in person.

How are they going to confirm it? Visual or probing?

Not sure, it was the owner's wife I talked to. But in person probably wouldn't hurt.

I'd agree, even though I'm a novice I'm going to say it's a male.

Looks like Male to me as well!

Male for sure. Even though it tapers AT the vent. It is AFTER the vent where it retains thickness which would be concealing the hemipenis.

would you repeat additional avalible informations about Marley?
Photo-sexing is one of my hobbies but I´m not able to follow all threats.
So what is its subspecy, age, weight, length....

What is its prefered color? ;-)

Well, you will have to put that albino in a separate enclosure anyway...I would think. I personally wouldn't keep an albino in with a regular snake because of the lighting differences. Regular garters need light cycles...daylight cycles vs. night cycles without light, whereas albinos often do not like any light at all. If you want to get a roomie for Marley, I would look for a male that is not an albino. Some people do keep albinos in with other snakes successfully...some albinos don't mind light. I believe that Chris has his albino in with another garter...and he used LED lights with his snakes for light and UTH mats for heat. I could probably do it with Possum, as he seems to like light...but Hermes absolutely hates it...he hides if there is any light at all. I suppose it would depend on the albino and how sensitive the snake is to light.

Color doesn't really matter personally. Just don't want any 'oops' litters until I'm ready for them. Plus no market for garters around here yet.
Marley is a WC Parietalis from KS.
Not sure of age but I taped Marley at 19 inches and I'm not sure if my scale is right or not but weight is under 90 grams, which doesn't sound right to me for some reason.

But to update the thread.... Its a Boy. Thanks for the input too. One of these days I'm going to get it right though.

"in drag" you're funny. Take a look at the width about one scale below the cloaca, on the base of the tail. now look at the width at that same distance from the cloaca, but on the body side. not much, if any, difference in width. Male. If he was female, the tail side wouldn't be as wide. The tail would immediately be not as wide as the body side. make sense?

everything about that snake screams out to me "I am a boy". He's not "in drag".

Ok, that exlpains the tapering a bit more, thanks.

And the only reason I said in drag was that orgianlly based in earlier pictures I posted when I first joined said that he was female.

Wouldn't be the first time that's happened. I had a boy named "Amy" after all.

To make matters worse, the name was really short for " amarillo" meaning yellow. Then Amy grew up, turned out to be male, and turned orange.

I pushed female, but I thought the question was are WE a male or female. The homepage just says "Male or Female". Sorry. I think the SNAKE is a male. :)

I interpreted the poll on the home page the same way. Fortunately, I was right :)

oh wow, that's funny! Next time, I suggest that you read the first post associated with the poll. That's just too funny.:p

In our defense, the first page simply says "Male or Female" :)~
