Does anybody keep these? I'm guessing that if you do then your in Europe. I've been looking at finding some captive bred ones but haven't had any luck. I know I can legally collect them as long as I don't trade in them, but I really don't like the idea of taking something from the wild.

I think there's a few around, but the people who have them don't tend to broadcast it too widely because of the grey legality (at least when it comes to selling any young). I don't know anyone who has these, but I know a couple of people who have a number of natrix species. In the UK you would have more luck finding natrix species from the continent than Helvetica.

I thought as much. From what I understand to sell the young as CB you need to be able to prove that they are captive bred. Photo's of the pairing, egg incubation and hatching. Videos probably help too, then use that proof to get the legal documentation to sell/trade in them.

I just thought it would be nice to be able to keep something that is native to this country, and would make me feel a little a little closer to the wildlife of this country (as its about the only thing I like about this place lol).

Looks like there are some awesome YouTube videos with regards to this species.

There are indeed. I'm lucky to live in an area where all our native snakes live. I've only seen a few though, but I've never really gone out specifically to find them. I may take a trip out in a couple of weeks if we get some nice weather

Seek and ye shall find! Go on your own, tread softly and stay quiet and use your eyes and you shall be rewarded.
Tip! Nice southerly faceing spots. ;)

No... Natrix natrix TNR is a different species.
Natrix natrix Helvatica does however come in morphs called "Bold" and "Italic".

Remember! You can handle grass snakes but you cannot touch smooth snakes! They have total protection. Hope you find and photograph some. ;)
