Here is the poo pic as promised...this is what I was seeing in Possum and Hermes' feces last week...and Possum obliged and promptly pooed all over his coconut after I fed him his pinky the other night. He was only fed chopped up pinky with a little reptamin powder sprinkled on top. (Oh, and Chris, I used a macro shot for this ;)).
4418 I also noticed this same color in feces in Cee Cee and Seeley's enclosure, and Hermes' enclosure. All of the snakes were fed pinky for the last feeding.

That doesn't look like blood to me. It does look like the coloring they use in salmon/trout.
Just my opinion.

Nice macro shot, you'll enjoy the photos you can take when you use the little flower button. :)
The poo doesn't look exactly like salmon or trout, it's a bit more translucent than I normally see. And that you fed pinky last would imply that this poo is a feed behind what you last fed - I'm not sure the digestive transit times and whether some passes quicker. When a snake poos a few days after feeding is that the most recent feed, or do they have two or three feeds digesting at the same time?
The fact that all three of your snakes have the same colour poo would suggest that it is down to the food, providing they are all fed the same?

Yes...I fed them all pinky this time...and I think I gave them a mixture of pinky and salmon last time. Perhaps the color has to do with the reptamin that I added as well...I don't know if you know much about reptamin, but it is a dark green color...I suppose added in with the red of the salmon, it could have caused that rusty color. Btw...did anyone take a look at my thread I posted about the safety of using reptamin? I have no idea what poo is coming from which feeding...I would think it would depend on what was fed considering that some things take longer to digest than others.

That is salmon poo. Willow does the same thing when fed salmon.

Good to know Kat, thanks. Like Chris said...it seemed like if they were all poopin' it after eating...it must have been something they ate and not anything to worry about. I guess I just never paid attention to it before!

The only thing that made me slightly uncertain was that you photo made it look translucent, our salmon/trout poo is a more solid colour. Maybe there's variation between different types of salmon?

Well, there is added coloring in the salmon that I gave them...could that be it? It is fresh, not frozen...but I know that there is coloring added to it. So, I think some salmon is a darker red than others.

That might be it Marnie, I know that there is nothing added to the salmon I use and it's quite a light pink.

The next time I buy fish, I am going to buy tilapia. I have been having a very difficult time finding fresh salmon around here that doesn't have coloring added to it. I know that we discussed this in one of the threads and most people say that the coloring is harmless, but I don't like the idea of feeding it to my snakes on a regular basis....now and again, maybe, but not all the time. Plus, the tilapia is supposed to provide a good deal of calcium and is supposedly low in mercury.
