Hi, what things must be done different on the caresheet of a garter-snake if instead is actually keeped a ribbon-snake ??
And what books in both english & german idioms are the most recommended for the captive keeping of the garter and ribbon snakes ??
Thank you so much in advance for your commentaries. Regards, Roberto.

I think one big difference between the two is ribbons seem to be more of a specialized feeder. They can be trained to eat different prey items but scenting of prey seems to be necessary under most circumstances.
The other difference seem to be attitude. Meaning ribbons are more jumpy and don't seem to calm down the way most other garters do.
These are just my observations with the one ribbon(Gulf Coast ribbon- Thamnophis proximus orarius) I keep.
I for one will be watching this thread for some of the other posts.
I feel I have so much more I need to know about these wonderful garter snakes. I also hope to breed my big girl (Shyblue) someday.

Here is a link you may want to take a look at for some recommended books. Some of the books listed are children's books though. The book that is most highly recommended is The Garter Snakes: Evolution and Ecology. The first book pictured in the link. It can be purchased used through Amazon. http://www.thamnophis.com/forum/garter-snake-lounge/9414-looking-some-good-reading.html

When you do visit Toluca you will find garter snakes from the borders of this city to beyond ! the garter snakes have healthy populations in these locations and in my own location too ! Thanks, regards.
