Looks like there was a brief thread in 2008, but there are Mexican laws preventing anyone from getting them or something. If only my Mexican side of the family wasn't afraid of snakes...

Looks like Wayne and Don know something about them...and Scott may have had some at one point. So...the Mexican laws don't prevent you from getting them...but it's very tough to import them or something. Wayne and Don would be the one's to ask. Oh Wayne...you out there?

No one is working with them currently. they have a limited range in the southern part of Mexico.... Steven Bol has a number of Mexican species, but doesn't have these.....maybe he can look for some next time he's down there ;) wanna mention it Joe???

Don't tell me about things I can't have or things that are nearly impossible to get a hold of...darn it! That just starts me on a mission...and I become obsessed. I will not get involved in this...lol.

"prettier" is a matter of opinion, wouldn't you say? I happen to agree with you, but not everyone would.

I'm willing to concede that I don't know anything about this species, but that's a very unusual pattern for a garter snake. It looks to me almost like a nerodia pattern.

Nerodia, Regina and Thamnophis are closely related to each other.
Once in a while the borders of the genii are objects of discussions.

I believe Greg sent me a paper on that relationship. What I managed to gather from it by looking at the graphs in it, Nerodia is paraphyletic.
