I am proud to introduce Adira! She is an 8mo old Albino Female Checkered. (T.marcianus)
She enjoys soaking in her tub, and wagging her tail.

I was holding her after dinner and she was sitting in my hand with her tail dangling down, and started wagging it!! It was the silliest thing I've ever seen! I held it gently to stop the wagging and as soon as I let go she started again. She wasn't being aggressive, just chillin' in my hand wagging her tail. :D

Adira has been a little more active today. I offered a worm to no avail. She declined the pinkie yesterday too. She loves her water dish hide and her tree. She has investigated the jungle gym but hasn't really climbed on it yet. Here she is at the top of her tree.

Something about her looks very ladylike. She's a cutie. :)

I thought perhaps the jungle gym was a little intimidating, so I had Bill put some plants on it. She likes her tree so much, I thought she would like this too.

And she does!

I'm telling you, it's something about these albinos and climbing...Hermes and Possum are both always up in their hanging bushes too. They love to be right up under the heat of the lamp too. She looks adorable! Hermes wouldn't eat for two weeks after he got here...but when he finally did...I put his food out in the middle of the night, on a paper towel under his hide for him. Because he is nocturnal and so secretive...that is the only way he will ever eat. Now..I finally got it so that I can feed him in the evening, and not in the middle of the night...but I always have to put it under his hide and then put him in his hide with the food...just a little tip. :)

Yeah, I'm not worried about her eating. She's still settling in. We'll offer a pinkie tomorrow as it is feeding day. One of the many good thing about having multiple snakes is there us always someone that will easy the leftovers. :)

She ate a worm this evening! She ate from the tongs. She is very polite when eating, not snappy and she is always sure to wipe her face. :)

Sounds like a very polite young snake.
Then she crapped in the water dish. :D

She hasn't done that yet. I'm sure once she gets fully settled in she will treat us to that. :D

Adira had been venturing out of the hide all on her own today. She has been investigating the jungle gym a bit more as well. Tomorrow is mouse day so we'll see if she eats again. I'm very happy with how she is coming along. My mom fell in love with her when she was here for my birthday. She wants a snake, but my dad said no. :( I'll talk him into it though. :D

Yeah, I need to buy some batteries for my camera. I'll get her out for an official photo op after that. She's pretty plump right now, the pinkie half she got was the bigger half. Fish Bait got the smaller half.

I find Photoshop to be the overpriced, market-leading, sledgehammer to crack nut-sized photographic manipulation. Or put another way, I'd wager that 90% of Photoshop users use 10% of its functionality.
I've got the good, but aging, Paintshop Price on my desktop machine because I got a copy from work. It was on par with Photoshop at the time. Now I just install a free package called Paint.net, it has more than the 10% that most people need, so I thought I'd throw it in here as an option for folks who don't want to edit their photos without paying a lot for software to do it.

That would be awesome Steve. What would I do without my friends? I am getting a lot of hand-me-downs lately and let me tell you, I am so appreciative! One of the dads on Julian's baseball team was telling me he thought Julian needs a new baseball bat, which would cost me about $50...that I just don't have right now. So he offered to give Julian one of his son's old bats. People really come through when you need them. This is why I always try to be generous and help people as much as I can. If you share what you have and help others, others will help you when you are in need. :) I hope everyone on here knows...if you need something...just mention it. If I have it and I can spare it, it's yours.

Paint.net is free: www.paint.net (http://paint.net/)
It's not got all the features of Photoshop or Paintshop Prof, but it's got everthing you need to add captions, resize, crop, and alter the colour balance of photos. I use it a lot for screenshots for work. If you need to start playing with some photo manipulation it's well worth downloading.

The software that came with my camera does allow me to crop, resize, add captions. It doesn't have any tools for changing the background or anything more advanced. I used to have photoshop years ago but I haven't been able to afford another copy in a while. Steve generously offered to send me his old copy though. :)

Saw a possible worry today with Adira. I had her out and noticed two spots on her belly where the scales are odd looking. I put some antibiotic ointment on it. Her temps and humidity are good. Activity is great, eating and drinking normally. I snapped some pics for you all to see.

Doesn't look serious and you're treating as well as you can.
I would think the next shed should clear it up.
I've seen that before on a few of my snakes.

I swear by hibiclens...if you could get a hold of some of that and dilute it...I think Richard recommends a 50/50 water to hibliclens ratio...and dip a cotton swab in it and dab that on there a few times a day before you put the antibiotic ointment on, it would be an extra measure of treatment. You may want to check with Richard on that dilution ratio though...I always just put a few drops in a cup of water...I use it for everything...lip infections, scale problems, my own skin problems.
katach
03-15-2012, 09:21 PM
I don't have any hibiclens. I'll keep an eye out for some though. For now I'll just keep using the antibiotic ointment

Time for an update!
Adira is doing very well! She is eating like a champ, 1/2 to 3/4 of a large pinkie per week. She is really coming out of her shell too. She is exploring a lot and has even taken to sleeping in the open on occasion. She is getting better at climbing and grasping with her tail, but still needs work. She shed earlier this week, which needed a little assistance. She got everything from tne vent up on her own, but I had to get the wash cloth and warm water out for the rest. She was very well behaved and didn't mind in the least. I have a fantastic little girl!

Hermes is a very reclusive little guy...although he is getting a little better this week with coming out. He's been poking his little head out of his plants and peeking out at me on occasion. He really only likes to come out at night. He loves to eat too! He needed assistance with his last three sheds. Albinos can have trouble from what I have heard...I have been keeping a moist hide in his enclosure for him and he likes to spend a lot of time in there...you may want to try putting one in Adira's enclosure for her.
