So, do any experienced breeders of Eastern garters have any tips for success? (For example, as a ball python breeder, I would give people a tip that the snakes love to mate and lay their eggs during storms, so pair them up during storms).

Just wondering if there are any tricks, or methods, to increase the odds of success, from breeding to caring for the gravid female.

Having not bred any snakes yet I can't help with tips. There should be a lot of good tips from the many experienced breeders though, so I'll sit back and watch this thread with interest.

I don't breed, but I have seen others say that brumination is a big help. Keep the snakes cool for winter, and then pair them up when it starts to warm up.

I have a female and male eastern...and my female may be gravid...but I am not a breeder. If my female is gravid...it was not intentional. She was also gravid when I found her...she was wild caught...but she had stillborns last August. I will also be very interested to hear anything that breeders have to say on the subject.

No, I'm doing research prior to getting them.

the most obvious/common practice i would think, is to introduce the male when the female has just shed he seems to find her scent irresistible [pheromones i assume] having other snakes you will probably be aware of this but i thought it should be mentioned as other [new] keepers read these posts.

Right after hibernation they generally mate, then about 90-100 days the babies are born. I have read this from a guy who has been doing this for about 30 years. You can google "Alans garter snakes". He has a lot of good ideas. Good luck!
